Ask the Editors: Little Help Snow Plow Style
Any info appreciated, thanks a bunch.
As is often the case with situations like these – a lot of what you’re paying for is convenience. A metal blade and some mounting brackets can be made to work on a wide variety of machine frames but the question is how much of a hassle are you willing to deal with to make it happen?
Were it us, we would forego buying the used Glacier Pro that is set up specifically for a RZR considering the $475 price tag puts it right in line with the average cost of a complete kit (or a universal mounting kit in the event that you may end up getting a different machine later on) for your specific make & model.
Additionally, $999 seems a bit steep indeed for an aftermarket mount kit as the going rate is roughly $500 – $600. Here are some things to consider, however:
1) Size
Blades often come in a variety of sizes from 48 – 68″.
The bigger you go, the more expensive.
2) Manual vs Winch
Any kit you purchase will differ in cost depending on whether or not you already have a winch installed on your machine. Why? Because the winch cable will do the heavy lifting for you and demand only a mounting point on the hardware to attach the hook. Going full manual requires extra linkages, shaft and a lever so that the operator can raise and lower the plow from the saddle.
Full manual, because it comes with several ore parts, will be more expensive.
Some good examples of where you can order a kit would include this Kolpin unit brand new for $499, this KFI 50″ kit for $599 or a universal kit like this one on eBay for $449.
