ATV Industry Facts: Did You Know?

This wasn’t always the case.

In the early years of the ATV industry, there were no minimal age recommendations for vehicle operation.

This all changed in 1987 but this fact is usually overshadowed by the fact that the consent decrees entered into by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the manufacturers of ATVs also put an end to the factory-made 3-wheeler.

By 1988 the manufacturers agreed not market or sell adult-size ATVs to or for use by children younger than 16 and this has remained the case to this very day.

Bonus Fact: Even still the CPSC says that more than 90% of injuries to children involving ATVs are a direct result of their lack of developmental skills required to maneuver faster, more powerful adult ATVs.
