Cold rides can be warm too.

Fall is some of the best riding of the year – plus there’s hunting, so when we’re confronted with frosty cool mornings made even colder by the air passing around us in the saddle, we grab our Volt gear and get to it.

If you’re not familiar, Volt is pretty cool stuff – well maybe not literally, it’s pretty warm stuff in fact, but how it accomplishes its task is pretty unique.

They use a 7, 5 or 3 volt rechargeable lithium battery just like those found in our cell phones to warm up a heating element inside of their heated socks, gloves, slippers, vests and jackets. We’re talking standard USB charging here and in fact, they have a series designed to run off 12-volt standard so that our ATVs and SxS ports can power them directly.

They call their system Zero Layer Technology and helps eliminate bulk while providing more efficient heat transfer than any other heating system available.

What do we mean by more efficient? To keep it simple, it is because we basically eliminate the need to “hide” their heating system behind additional fabric layers which impedes heat transfer. This translates to more heat, better heat coverage, less battery power and longer run times.

Each of their ultra-thin heating panels are constructed using tiny, imperceptible stainless steel fibers that are woven onto an insulated fabric. They then encapsulate these heating elements with a special thermal bonding sealing tape – permanently protecting the heating panels and connections from the wear and tear caused by the rigors of daily use making it extremely durable.

Each heating panel is engineered to provide a specific amount of instant heat that evenly radiates warmth to the body to help chase away the cold.

Even if you aren’t a tech junkie, the bottom line is the stuff works. To the point where we can’t remember how we dealt with the cold prior. It’s that good.

The only downside, of course, is that like anything quality, you have to pay to play. Their top of the line Summit 5V Down Coat will set you back $399.95. And one of our personal favorites, The Outfitter 5V comes in at $199.95. That isn’t to suggest they don’t have some wonderful deals either, however. We grabbed the THZ (Thermal Half Zip) 5V pullover jacket for $105 on sale! This sale is still going on at the time of the time of this article’s writing.

If the idea of the upcoming crisp fall rides is stymied only by concern of that frigid morning air freezing you cold, this is the gear you’ve been waiting for even if you didn’t realize it. Just be forewarned, once you make the move, there’s no going back.
