Pennsylvania mud was slung in Round 8.

The Progressive Grand National Cross Country (GNCC Racing) Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship, continued this weekend with the Parts Unlimited Mason-Dixon GNCC held in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania. After a substantial amount of rain fall on Friday and Saturday morning, track conditions started out slippery and wet but would start to tack up as the afternoon race took off.

Once the green flag waved on the eighth round of the GNCC series, Action Off-Road/AMSOIL/CB Racing’s Chris Borich found himself in a favorable position and earned the $250 XC1 ATV Holeshot Awrad.

As the group of XC1 Pro riders emerged from the woods and headed towards timing and scoring on the opening lap, it was HHR/Fly Racing/QuadTech’s Hunter Hart holding the early lead. Hart would continue to push himself, but he would soon find himself in a heated battle with Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Brycen Neal for the lead position.

On lap three, Neal would make the pass for the lead coming through just 1.8 seconds ahead of Hart. That wouldn’t discourage Hart though as he kept on pushing and would make his way back into the lead on the next lap and hold that position until he saw the checkered flag wave. Hart’s win would not come easy as he had to push the entire duration as second and third were just 1.3 seconds behind him.

Action Off-Road/Kenda/Custom Axis’ Jay Shadron would have a good start to the day as he came through second on the opening lap but would briefly fall back to fourth for the next couple of laps. Shadron would regain focus and push towards the front again, making his way into second on the last lap of the race and crossing just 1.3 seconds behind Hart and less than a second ahead of Neal.

After briefly holding the lead, Neal would fall back to third on the last lap of the race, crossing the line to round out the top three overall finishers.

Borich would remain in the top five after earning the holeshot at the start of the race as he crossed the line to earn fourth overall. OBOR/Moose Racing/Parts Unlimited/Lonestar’s Adam McGill would battle his way up to round out the top five overall finishers after he started back in the tenth place position on lap one.

Action Off-Road/Maxxis Tires/Lonestar Racing’s Austin Abney worked his way up from a 14th place start to the day, to crossing the finish line for sixth overall on the day. Stewart Boys Racing/GBC/Pierce Performance’s Wyatt Wilkin had a back-and-forth day as he worked his way up to second as the white flag flew. Wilkin would ultimately cross the line seventh overall.

WFR/Kenda/Fly Racing/Yamaha/BNR’s Walker Fowler found himself running 12th on the second lap, and he would be unable to regain momentum to make a push towards the front in the slick yet tacky conditions. Fowler would work his way up to finish eighth overall on the day.

Coming through to take ninth overall on the day was Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Grayson Eller as he battled his way inside the top 10 after starting back in the 13th place position on the opening lap. BNR Motorsports/Fearless/Kenda Tire’s Steven Harrell rounded out the top 10 overall finishers at the Parts Unlimited Mason-Dixon GNCC.

As the XC2 Pro-Am class took off it was CST Tires/LMR Motors/Elka/Fly Racing’s Braxton Grosse earning the $100 XC2 BNR Motorsports Holeshot Award and holding the early lead in the class.

However, as the race continued on the XC2 class would see multiple leader changes as both BNR Motorsports/Pierce Performance/GBC Tire’s Alex Thieman and Hilltop Motorsports/Precision Trenching/Action Off-Road’s Daulton Keyes would both be credited with holding onto the lead position for a couple of laps in the race.

Grosse would continue to push forward and make the pass for the lead on the last lap and holding that all the way to see the checkered flag waving, earning his third win of the season. Thieman would hold on to finish second in the class, while Keyes came through to round out the top three XC2 finishers.

In the morning race conditions still remained pretty slick and wet throughout the course as the sun would only peak through the clouds Saturday morning. As the 4×4 Pro class took off it was KMK Off-Road/Osburn Off-Road/Kenda’s Dayton Hickey earning himself the $100 4×4 Pro BNR Motorsports Holeshot Award.

As the racers made their way through the woods, Kenda/KMK/Ryco Electric’s Cody Collier would hold the early lead. However, while out on the third lap Pro Row 784/TMS/Edgewood/DeRisi’s Brandon Frazier would make the move into the lead with Collier holding onto second. Frazier would be able to make his way through the course on the last lap, coming through to take his third AM overall win and 4×4 Pro class win. Collier would come through to take second in the class and overall, while Hickey held onto the third place position.

The WXC class saw some good battles throughout the race as JMR/Action Off-Road/GBC/Moose Racing’s Katelyn Osburn earned herself the $100 WXC BNR Motorsports Holeshot Award to start the day. The early lead would be held by Elioff Racing’s Jessica Elioff, but she would unfortunately fall back to fourth as the checkered flag flew.

The battle came between Osburn Off-Road/Fearless/Kenda’s Hannah Hunter and Osburn Off-Road/Pierce Performance/Moose Racing’s Chloe Harper as they would come through timing and scoring just seconds apart for the last two laps of the race. Hunter would be able to hold off Harper and earn her third class win of the season, while Harper finished just 2.2 seconds behind her to take second place in the WXC class. Osburn would fight back to overtake the third place position on the last lap of the race and round out the top three WXC finishers.
