Monster Moto Mini Bikes and Go-Karts Are as Fun as They Look

A few weeks ago the fine folks at Monster Moto came to our offices to show off their range of gas and electric mini bikes as well as their gas-powered go-kart. As you’ll see from the photos in the gallery below, we thoroughly enjoyed the two hours we spent with Monster Moto’s lineup.

I began my Monster Moto morning by sampling their $250 Classic Electric Mini Bike. I dream of having something like this to fool around with at the office, and with a top speed of 11 mph (that can be toggled down to 7 mph) I can have peace of mind knowing I won’t ever go fast enough to kill myself or any of my fellow colleagues in the hallways.

Once I was warmed up I saddled upon Monster Moto’s $450 family of 80cc four-stroke mini bikes in “American Flag” and “Muddy Girl” motifs. With outputs of 2.5 horsepower and 26 mph top speeds, I was ready for the open road with these little machines. Slap on some turn signals, headlights and stoplights, and I’m confident these things could make it across the country.

My favorite machine of the day, however, was the Realtree Go-Kart. The 80cc, 2.5-horsepower four-stroke found in the gas-powered mini bikes is put to good use in the go-kart’s chassis. Top speed is a brisk 18 mph, which was just enough for me to enjoy a bushel of drifts provoked by the almighty Scandinavian flick. At limit handling, the welded tube steel frame inspires confidence, and after a few minutes of riding this go-kart, I was getting flashbacks to the time I tested an Ariel Atom. If all it takes is $750 to have those kinds of flashbacks, sign me up.

If you’re thinking all these products are assembled in China, think again. By 2017 Monster Moto will have moved all product assembly to its 100,000 square-foot production facility in Ruston, Louisiana, so not only are these products helping your kids get out of the house, but they’re helping grow American manufacturing, too. Now that’s a win-win I can stand behind.
