Rare ATV Sighting: Husaberg Enforcer

If someone asked you what was the rarest production performance quad ever made, you might be tempted to tell them about the Suzuki LTR500 (or as it was more commonly known, the Quadzilla). Nobody would fault you if you decided to answer with any one of the 4 ATVs KTM produced briefly. Maybe you’d even mention the short lived Cannondale Cannibal or the short-lived US Highland 450 factory custom.

In fact, one of the rarest of all production ATVs came from a now defunct company called Husaberg. It was a 600cc, liquid-cooled high performance 4-stroke in an era where 2-strokes were still the king of quad racing. It was called the Enforcer and it was available between 2000 and 2003. Husaberg was a small plant but estimates in its entire run, 40 Enforcers left the assembly line.

Husaberg is a little-known Swedish performance company that formed back in 1988 when a pair of former Husqvarna engineers sat down with plans to build the ultimate off-road motorcycle. In an era where 2-strokes owned the market, Husaberg set their sights on the future: high-revving, cleaner burning 4-stroke engines.

After nearly a decade of producing small runs of championship winning enduro equipment, KTM acquired the brand in 1995 and left it to serve as the 4-storke development house.

It was during this era that the Enforcer ATV saw the light of day.

In 2003, marking the end of the Enforcer’s run, KTM decided to integrate production of Husaberg products in its own plant and thus began the era of “Developed in Sweden, built in Austria.”

Then in 2013 KTM, which now also owned the Husqvarna brand, decided to do away with Husaberg as its own entity and instead merge it back into the Husqvarana marque from whence it had born.

As such, this means just about any machine wearing Husaberg branding is a rarity but none so more than the Enforcer race quad. Of the 40 ever made, roughly 20 are believed to be in the United States.
