110cc TaoTao is getting no power
Hello, brand new here. My daughter's 110cc TaoTao has a problem. When i turn on the key it is doing nothing. It is getting no power. The battery is fully charged. I put a new ignition switch on it. None of this worked. I am going to go through all of the wiring tomorrow and take out everything but the necessary wiring. Remote start, kill switch are going. I was just wondering if anyone had any other ideas what could be wrong. Thanks.

read this thread. it may help get you started.

check the fuse. I kinda had the same problem. Mine had bunk wires that hook up those R and N indicator lights. I just disconnected them and replaced the fuse. everything was cool. sitting on the quad the fuse was tucked in on the left side...tucked up under the seat kinda....youll see it. theres a replacement fuse in there also..

Thanks for the help. I have power now but it won't start. I cut alot of wires off so I am wondering if I wired everything back together right. i took off the kill switch so do I need to do something with the wires coming from it. I have have one purple wire coming from the ignition switch left over and one black/white wire coming from the 5 wire relay. I don't know if the problem is electrical or fuel?

ok, a little more info is needed here. when you say "won't start". do you mean, won't crank/turn over? Or, turns over but won't fire? won't fire=low/no spark or no fuel. won't turn over=electrical issues. i presume you mean won't crank/turn over due to the leftover wires? which way are we going here? thanks.
if you haven't done a search, try the advice in these previous posts. http://forums.atvconnection.com/chin...not-start.html this one has pics from LynnEdwards that may help. of course, Lynn will correct me if i'm wrong. http://forums.atvconnection.com/chin...-no-spark.html and another one. http://forums.atvconnection.com/chin...-all-help.html |
I'll read over those links later. I am headed to work. Thanks for your help! What I meant by won't start is it is cranking but it won't turn over. Sorry about the confusion.

then Id say its a spark problem or a fuel problem.
Id check for gas in the tank. then it could be a blockage. theres alot of crud in the gas these days. go to advance auto, purchase an in line fuel filter and a in line fuel shut off valve. both will be less than 10 dollars. my sons had neither when we got it. once you throw the filter on you will be surprised how much junk is in there even after 1 tank of gas. make sure gas is getting to the carb. if its not then the carb will need to be taken off and cleaned thouroghly. then if gas is getting to the carb. pull the spark plug and lay it on the engine block. proceed to crank the motor with the starter to see if the spark plug is sparking. anyone feel free to correct me or add to that as im no mechanic. just into choppers....old school honda 750s but I think its something with the kill switch wiring also. if you cut those kill switch wires they will need to be joined together. hence if the wires are not together...its operating in "KILL SWITCH MODE" all the time now... |

theres alot of crud in the gas these days. well, when we make gasoline, it's clean. BUT, it's the retailer and the underground storage tanks. i use filters myself, but i also buy fuel, whether diesel for my truck or gasoline for the others, i go to where there is a high turnover of fuel. i agree with 222ct, look at the links and read up, the kill wire is probably the culprit. check the spark when grounded. |
Definitely see if it is a spark problem first. No sense worrying about electrical issues if you have a fat blue spark. If you have spark then it is fuel and/or compression issues.
About kill switches: On your quad the spark is enabled when *all* kill switches are open (disconnected, wires hanging free, infinite resistance from the kill wire to ground). Spark is disabled (killed) when any one of the kill switches are shorted to ground (kill switch wires shorted together). |
Im having the same problem out of my son's 110cc atv. I turn the ingition on, but no power. None for the ligths work including the neutral and reverse lights.
I have removed the body and traced most of the wiring with my multimeter and have power goin to starter soliend and other parts that have 12+ power from the battery. I have 12.08 volts from the battery sending power. I bike is in neutral. I have tryed sending volts straight to the starter with no luck. i touched the two post on the starter soliend, with no luck. I have been reading other post on this CDI thing, can someone help me understand what this does? |
