110 ATV won't Idle
I have a chinese 110 atv for my son. It runs great but won't start unless you give it a little gas and launch off. As soon as you let off the gas it instantly cuts off but will start right up following the steps I just mentioned. Is there something I can do to make it run in idle? If so, can you advise me of the steps?
Thanks, Adub |
i'd start with cleaning the carb/jets and changing the fuel filter if applicable. check the idle screw setting also.

Thanks Jaster! However, it's a brand new carb. Is the idle screw the one with the spring? If so, do you turn nit clockwise or counter clockwise?
|
turn it clockwise. Also the gas today uses ethanol which will eventually gum up the carb. I recommend using 92 octane and lucus gas treatment once a month. I have three chinese atvs and with simple upkeep, they last a long time.

Thanks, Lockman! Should I adjust it while it's running or does it matter? Is it the one with the spring?
|
yes adjust while it is idling. You also might have to adjust the mixture screw (the one without the spring). With that one, turn it clockwise til it stops and back it out 2 full turns and go from there.

ditto
:iagree:

Please help!

Thanks, Adub It will take off and run as long as I push the throttle. What else can I try to get it to idle without the choke being on?? I can't find the a/f screw or whatever you guys are calling it (I'm a girl lol not super mechanically inclined but I'm learning). The gas IS on, I've checked that too. Please help!!!! |
some carbs require cleaning EVEN IF they're brand new. pull the pilot jet and clean it. the choke cuts air and adds fuel (richens) for cold start. i'd start with cleaning the jets.
|
I have no idea how to do that. Can you walk me through?
And also, the a/f screw -- where do I find that? I thought it would be near the idle screw, right? But I can't seem to find it. My family is giving me crap for buying one of these lil atvs instead of a Honda. I'd really love to get it running w.o their help just so I can say HA! Lol So any help is greatly appreciated. :thanks: |
