Do you always have spark.

Hello I have a no name Chinese ATV with an air cooled 200cc.
After going through it and doing the usual work to get it running good I am still getting a no spark condition and if I wait a few minutes sometimes to a few hours I get spark back and it continues to be reliable until the next no spark condition.
I have removed the kill wire, replaced cdi then it will work, switch old cdi then it also works. I also redid the ground wire to a thicker gauge.
Before I start changing parts is there anyone here that has a similar issue?

The ATV can be good for a few days then ..no spark...wait a few then runs fine again.
Thanks in Advance!

U are getting the same contrition with new and old cdi? Have you checked the connector to the cdi for pins that are pushing out if the connector when u plug it in? Also when u have the no spark have u checked the power wire to the coil for power? For the price of a new spark plug boot $5 go change it out. I had a random no spark issue put new cdi in and still had the issue turned out it was a little brass fitting in the boot that had come loose. I would have never found it if it had not fallen out

Zrock, that sounds logical..I went ahead and ordered a coil with the boot. Hopefully this should help...I thought about replacing the stator while I'm at it.
You think that is worthwhile?
Almost ready to take it out but before I'm thinking of bringing spare parts.

Also I noticed you said you were working on a 110 cc ATV, Would the 110cc ATV be the same size as the 200cc? I may be interested in getting one, but don't want the baby sized one. Thanks..

I would not just throw parts at it before you know they are bad. If you change a bunch of parts and the problem happens again what part was it that was bad?
The 110 is not much bigger than a 50cc I fact I think the only size diffrence is the body. I just lifted the foot rests so it was comfortable for my 3year old

Throwing parts is not really my style, except they are very low cost..
No offence on the Baby quad thing..it is just I read in a forum of a 125 to 150cc that is adult sized that an adult rides regularly and they have a few on CL that runs for under a hundred.
Thanks for the tips.

Hey Zrock parts came in and I replaced the coil and I was still getting random no spark, But I also ordered another CDI. SO I replaced both..now it appears that I have spark all the time.
I still get the funny clunk sometimes when I crank and it doesn't start similar to the other spare CDI I have. I don't know if this is normal but doesn't seem to harm the engine.
Both CDI I ordered seems larger than the original...I have heard that the DC CDI is larger.
Does anyone know if you have an AC CDI and you put a DC CDI in, would it still function? I am suspecting this is causing the clunk?? Thanks

if you replaced one with the other it should not run and fry the cdi since it is 2 different voltage types. Mabe you had the wrong one in it to start with?

Hey Zrock...Have been busy, but I thought that too, even with the old CDI it will run, not just all the time.
I actually have ridden the ATV and appears that the no spark issue is gone..I was impressed at the power of the 200cc and how well they run. I tackled some tough rutty hills and the engine was smooth and no stumble. I had it at WOT and no delay or hesitation. Now I think I am going to buy another ATV.
I have a good opportunity to pick up a Yamaha Moto 4 230cc for what I picked up the china quad for.
