Coolster 110cc won't turn over
 

I have been reading post and have gotten a ton of help from them so far.

My latest problem has me stumped. So before I start digging in I thought I would see if anyone had any idea on the problem.

So I got this ATV cheap but have not had it running yet. First problem was the starter was trashed and the battery was shot. Both now replaced. With the Left side cover off I can see the flywheel will not turn when I engage the starter. I can turn the flywheel clockwise with no problem (spark plug removed). I can turn the flywheel counterclockwise until I hit a hard stop in the same position every time. I can not get it past this point.

Any ideas on why it will not turn over would be appreciated.

you may try getting it to TDC and check valve lashing/clearances. has it set outside for a long time?

So you can turn it endlessly in the clock wise direction? then as soon as you turn it counter clock wise(ccw) it hits something?

If so pull the valve cover and watch the rocker arms as you turn the flywheel..Are both rocker arms moving..

Kinda weird because ccw is the normal engine rotation when its running.

So just look to see if the valves are moving as i turn the flywheel clockwise?

I read that the valve clearance should be .003". Is that correct?

And no it had not been sitting outside. It was supposedly ran last year then stored inside till i bought it 2 weeks ago.

Update:

I have no valve movement when i turn the flywheel clockwise. So the question is should it be moving since the starter clutch (one way bearing) is not engaged? I checked the valves and they were already set at .003".

When the flywheel turns, the cam/valves should turn/move. Regardless of what the starter clutch is doing..

Id guess the timing chain is broken.. or the sprocket that turns the cam chain is broken at the crank. Does the timing chain wrap neatly around the cam sprocket?

That was it. I took the timing chain cover off and 2 of the 3 bolts fell out and the 3rd was barely holding the sprocket on (which had a crack going through it).

Now comes the fun of locating the parts and tearing this thing apart. Time to try and search for a post on timing chain replacement.
