New Master Cylinder no Reservoir
 

Hi Guys,
I am replacing the rear brakes on my Chinese Quad. It is about a 200cc and the theory is it is a Honda clone. (I bought it 2nd hand with no information at all)
The old master cylinder was stuffed and the line was also kinked and broken. The calipers may be ok but I thought I would just replace the lot.
I got hold of a complete set on ebay. It came already assembled but it didn't come with a reservoir. I assumed I could just use my existing one as it is OK.

When I compare the two master cylinders there is no fitting to connect the reservoir on the new one and when I watch some Youtube videos I see where the connector would go is some kind of sight glass.
Maybe it is already full of brake fluid and that is all that is all the fluid it gets. Am I missing something here?
What is the procedure to fill and bleed the system. I haven't seen one of these before so any advice appreciated even if it seems obvious to you.

Sorry the picture was a bit crap.
That master cylinder is actually a double barreled thing and the second barrel is the reservoir which explains why there is a sight glass on it.
The sad part is when I mount it on the bike the sight glass isn't visible as it is up against the frame. The filler cap is also well concealed so that is going to be fun.
It came pre assembled with brake fluid in it and I thought I was going to get away without having to bleed it.
I actually needed to turn the brake line around the other way as the angles on the fittings didn't work the way it was. (hit the exhaust pipe)
So there goes not bleeding it. I reassembled it on the bench and squirted about half a cup of brake fluid through trying to get all the bubbles out.
Back on to the bike it went and the brake line is only just long enough. The pedal is still a big spongy so there may still be some air in there.
I'll take it out for a test tomorrow and if I'm not happy I'll try bleeding it on the bike except the line is all downhill so the bubbles will probably just float the wrong way.

In any case I answered the reservoir question. If I can't figure it out I will be back on ebay looking for stuff closer to the original bits.

You could make an adaptor so the pipe from the original reservoir fits onto where the filler cap goes. As long as there are no leaks this would work fine.

thread a hose barb into the fill hole and hook it to your original reservoir?

That’s a good idea. I should be able to bleed the system properly then.
The current cap is only plastic so I’d have to make something better but the plastic one is rubbish any way.

Hi Trudy,
You may be better off starting a new post than replying to my rear brake question.

You should be able to find what you are looking for on eBay. The hard part with Chinese ATV's is to find the correct size part for your bike.
You may be able to measure your part and find the right size that way. They aren't hugely expensive and most sellers allow returns if you get it wrong.

You will also need to spell "solenoid" correctly in your search :)
