Default My GasGas update (Round 6 GNCC included)

Ok I just raced round 6 over this past weekend and just went through the quad last night cleaning, inspecting (sp), tighting bolts and other standard stuff.

First off I finished 13th in the open b class out of 29 and 149th overall out of 260+ riders. I was following the guy that finished 6th in the class for the first 1 1/2 when a slower rider in our class got between us do to bottlenecks. It took me 3/4 a lap to get around the slower guys since he refuse to let me by when I was yelling at him. After I got around him I tried to make up for lost time and start making small mistakes. I picked one bad line on a hill climb and a rider was hung up on a rock in front of me so I had to get off my quad a move it around so I could continue up the hill. All this cost me about 2 mins plus with a couple trees I hit I ended up loosing about 3 to 4 min. on the last lap. The worst thing about it the slower rider that had slowed me up earlier got back around me and finished 11th. When all was said and done I was only 4 1/2 mins behind the guy that finished 5th and I got 13th so it was some tight racing. The course was super rocking and tight. The rocks cut alot of tires during the race. I was one of the lucky ones who didn't get any flats. The course reminded me of Wisp last year. I had a blast at the race and can't wait for the next one. The one scary part of the race was running through the 2 tunnels the first one was completely dark and I had no headlight so it was like riding with a blind fold on.

Well yesterday I clean up the quad and tighted my swingarm skid plate, bent my chasis skid plate back, fixed my bent handlebars and check the radiator to see if it was still overheating. Well the overheating issue has been solved. The new bigger radiator and fan along with a 60/40 mix (60 water, 40 antifreeze) with engine ice solved the overheating issue. I've also direct wired the fan so it runs all the time and added a screen in front of the radiator to keep most of the mud from caking up the radiator.

Yes I did. That sucks. You must have hit something pretty hard. What was it? I've heard of a couple people breaking spindles at that race. One of the pro riders broke his on his Z.

Are you planning on running Millfield (round 7)? It's a fast and fun course. Hope to see you there. Stop by my trailer and shot the breeze.

where'd you get the bigger radiator & fan?
i may direct wire the fan too , is it difficult?
do you just bypass the sensor in the upper hose?

i was checking out my rear shock it doesn't appear to have the white spacer yours did, just the poly/rubber bumper... so i'm not sure the 120mm links i have coming will do much for me

Well first off GasGas sent me the new radaitor and fan. They said they went to a larger one a to keep it from over heating. The new one is like 6" longer and comes almost out to the edge of the piggybacks on the front shocks. I think the old one was 15" lg and the new one is around 21" lg.

Direct wiring the fan is pretty easy. What me and my dealer did was remove the thermostat and put a new piece single piece of heater hose for the top hose. I'd recommend just replacing the thermostat with a supercooler. Then we unplug the wirings coming from the fan to the thermostat and then tested the 3 plug female end coming from the wiring harness until we found the power wiring then pluged one of the 2 fan wiring into it and the other fan next to it. Started up the machine an rev it a little to get the fan to come on and then check to see if to was plowing in the right direction. I can get the exact color to color wiring tomorrow evening if you'd like it.

I know they supposly changed something on the rear end but didn't know what it was. The linkage is still a good investment. It will raise the rear end up a little. Even after adding the linkage I still wanted to raise it up a little more so I hold John at MX Tech put the dirtbike shaft in the rear shock. The dirtbike shaft is 20mm longer. This raised the rear up more and I like it even more on. The big plus is I have about 1 to 1 1/2 more inches of travel and once I convert the rear to a dual spring set up it will all be upward travel which is what I need for the GNCC racing.

i think mine already has the larger radiator, i'll measure it & the fan tomorrow... i know it comes almost out to the rezzies.
please let me know which wires to hard-wire the fan in when you get a chance... no rush. i will replace the sensor with the inline cooler(already on its way) too.

Dual Sporter
I'll take a look after work tomorrow and let you know on the wiring.

Spence
That course was very rocky and rough. I bet alot of people broke stuff on their quads. I bent the crap out of my rear skid plate. I look foward to see you at millfield. I plan on rolling in around 6 to 7 pm friday night.

my radiator core(between the tanks) measures about 7.5" x 17" with the tanks its about 19.5 inches wide. the fan blades are about 4.5" across.

I'd say that it's the larger radiator then because the oringal one was only 15" long (overall).
