What fuel octane % for 12.1 and stage2 cam
#3
OK so something like VP's c12 . and not just 100 octane AV fuel I can get right around the corner for 3 dollars a gallon. I will have to make a 1 1/2 hour drive if so to VP and at over 6 dollars a gallon, has got me thinking..... what do you guys think do I go for 12.1 or just stick with 10.75 .1 ???
FYI- with stage2 hotcams.

I just bought VP Red (105 Motor Octane) for $28 per 5 gallons for my new 12:1 Craycraft. If I like it, I can get a 30 gallon drun for $130. According to VP's guidelines, Red is their generic race gas and good up to 13:1.
Also, not all octane numbers are the same. Make sure you are comparing Research Octane (RON) to Motor Octane (MON) to R+M/2.

it's not the power he should be worried about, but the detonation. Can you get adjustable timing on these motors anyway? Just curious. I work on a couple fast streetcars and have a wolverine - so I wonder about the tuning possibilites of my 350 motor in the wolvy...

I'm just butting my head in here since I don't run race gas but. . .
I have read that avgas doesn't have the needed corrosion inhibitors, cleaning agents, etc. that are needed and is bad to run.
Just what I've read. Again, I have no first hand experience at all but wanted to bring this point out as a topic to consider.

I've heard the same. It is a dry fuel no doubt, maybe it wouldn't be a good idea for a four stoke. I'd definately use top end lube, I'd also think about going to alcohol before paying 6 a gallon. Just my 2 cents. It burns very clean as well. I also have an egt to monitor if the engine is getting to hot.
