400 EX or Warrior
#1
I don't have a quad. I have lots of money though
So, help me out. I like the 400 EX, what I've read at least, and am stuck on the "no reverse" issue. I'll be riding mostly trails, and think the "reverse" issue will be an issue. I haven't heard anything negative on the Warrior other than the outdated platform. Those of you, who have the 400 EX's and ride trails, let me know your opinion. Thanks.

I rode a 300ex for awhile on the trails and loved it. It had reverse, (bad location), and I just seemed to never use it. I now have a 400ex that I like much better and I do not even miss reverse. I dont even think about it anymore.. There is no comparison in performance and suspension between the 400ex and warrior, the 400ex wins.... Ultimately you must decide. Me, I would take the 400ex everytime..

I had a 250x with alot of engine mods and traded for a 250r and now I have a 400ex. I don't ever feel the need for reverse. Once you learn to throw the 400 around you won't even miss reverse. I would never even consider letting my 400 go especially for a Warrior, not that they are a bad quad but its not a 400ex.

Thanks for your replies. Biased or not, I am pretty pleased with what I've seen as far as replies have gone. I put a similar posting in Yamaha's forum to get some feedback from them. I'm going with the 400 EX. 90% of my riding will be done going forward anyway. Just have to be sure I don't get into a jam.

I was in the same situation as you a month ago, I wanted a 400EX, but I also wanted reverse. I've been riding my Fourtrax300 4x4 for eight years, and I got the chance to ride a Warrior before making my decision, and I wasn't impressed at all. Wasn't nearly as much power as I was expecting. Got the 400EX, and am extremely impressed. Get the 400EX, you won't miss reverse, all you have to do is keep in mind you don't have reverse, so you won't get yourself into a position where you need it (and if you do, they are so light you can just push it back if you absolutely have to).

Hey Brian,
I myself love Honda's but bought a warrior the year before the 400ex came out. My buddy has a 400ex and I ride that and my warrior every week.
I personnaly like my warrior. I don't know if it's just because I'm used to it. The other post that are all one sided feed you crap that the 400ex will smoke the warrior and the 400ex is so much lighter. Well the scoop is the 400ex is faster but not by much and on a motocross coarse you can't tell the differance. I race my warrior every week and love it. As far as being lighter the 400ex is not that much lighter. I think you should wait one more year and check out the cannondale and the new yamaha. Because they both will smoke (by far) the 400ex and the warrior.

Even if you neglect the weight difference (which is quite small), the Warrior stock has 18 HP while the 400EX has 27 HP. I suppose if you add a bunch of aftermarket parts to both bikes, the HP margine will narrow, but even at that the Warrior would be quite a bit slower. Talking from experience here (not out my ***), the Warrior I rode was pretty doggy compared to the 400EX. I could full-throttle the Warrior and handle the bike with very little effort, while on the 400EX you'd better be hanging on pretty good when you give 'er full throttle. Then again, maybe there was something wrong with the one I rode, but I think the numbers speak for themselves.
