Zilla ? Broken Reeds?
#1
Hey Guys
What does your Zilla do if it breaks a reed?
I was ridding it last weekend pretty fast and it made a bang, pop and would not run . It kicks over but will not start. Pulled the spark plug out and it was a little wet but good brown color. It has spark and gas, I do not have a compression guage but it does have pressure to blow off my thumb.
I have not had time to pull it apart yet but will this weekend.
Any Ideas????????????
Thanks
Mike

This past weekend mine did EXACTLY the same. I was at the Dunes when I experienced a couple of pops and some hesitations then nothing. I got back to the truck and pulled the carb down, then inspected the reeds, everything. I gave up and was ready to go home. My cousin doesn't give up so easily, however. He was about to pull the pipe off and inspect it when he found the problem. My stator wires had somehow come into contact with my crappy fitting FMF and were grounding out. One piece of tape later I was down the road with a big smile on my face.
Do you have those carbon reeds or the white fiberglass type?

Hey DonZilla
It has V force reeds in it. I will check it Saturday morning.
This is my "new" zilla, so it was out on it first trip and lasted 2 days before this. It is pretty much stock compared to The Tick. I switched the works shocks and swing arm to this one but know have ing second thoughts..........

I had the same problem with the V-force reeds. I called Moto Tasanari and they fixed them. The problem is that Trinity sent me a reed cage for a RM250. Trinity has apparantly not updated their parts catalog and is still using an old #. I called Trinity and informed them of the problem and told them that I talked to the manufacture and confirmed that the part # they sent me was the wrong one and that was the cause of the failure. Trininty just kept saying that was the only part # they had and refused to call the manufacture to check. They claim they haven't had any other problems with the RM250 cage in the LT500 and that they couldn't do anything for me. Luckily the folks at Moto Tasanari(v-force) were good enough to rebuild my cage with the LT500 reeds for free.
So if you have a v-force I would be thinking they are suspect. You can check on the moto tasanari web site to see what part # you need to have.
Mine only lasted two days as well. It started popping and then just quit.

Thanks for the Help!!
The V Force reeds are broke. There is only 1/2 left. I put a photo on my Gallery.
What is the "right" number for the LT500?
Where would I find the number?
Thanks for the help again

You need a V2R110 not a V2M110 which you most likely received. If you look at Moto Tassanari's web site it says V2M110 for both the rm and lt, but if you look at the PDF version you will see that there are two different versions and if you call them they will tell you that there are two as well. The V2r110 can be upgraded to the M I think it's just a reed change.?

Hey Chongo
Thanks for all the help!! I called Moto V and they said to shio it to them for the replacement. The color of the reed clamp(part the screws down to hold the reeds on the cage) was to be black when mine were gray. They also said the reeds are different , the LT500 have to be thicker for the abuse it gives the reeds. I hope to get it back by the end of next week to I can ride it again!!!
