Default Michigan UP/Whitefish Point

Michigan riders:

Was up in the U.P. north of Paradise (whitefish point). This is my 3rd season riding those trails, and havn't gotten bored yet. Only rode about 65 miles (one day of riding) - I didn't have anyone elso to ride with, so I didn't go for real long rides. Lots of deep water - too deep for sport quads - I had my 02 SP700 in the water right to the top of the racks yeeehaaa!!!. The trail takes you to Lake Superior in several different spots, and follows the shoreline. It is illegal to ride the beach, but the ORV trail runs within 100 yards of the water. I wouldn't recommend a trip in any time other than early spring and fall - the bugs are almost unbearable (especially if camping). The trail also gets REAL dusty, lots of sugar sand.

Thought i'd share this spot...... ...... don't ruin it for others......

Kev, we just got back from there 2 weekends ago, we rode to the falls on the south side ( private) . Only once have I tried to make it to Whitefish point .... I was told there not to friendly riding on Lakeshore drive so we stayed away ????

we ride up from Hulbert to East/West road and go from there...... we also have run down to Trout lake ( Mudsville, lol) and even to Moran, then we head over to Brimley casino, we put about 250 miles on in 3 days.

We were going to try to run Pine Ridge ( Muskegon Lake ) trials but never made it , I'm sure we missed a nice trail, it to goes with 100 yards of Lake Superior in some spots...

are the trails your talking about LOCAL trails I'm assuming ..... sounds like one to do !!!!!

I hear there some nice trails around the Cut River also just acrossed the bridge !!!!

your right about those mosquitoes, they nearly carried us away last year in July !!!! too bad the Black flies were out in May this time and BITTING !!!!

How are the trails at Whitefishpoint, Pine Ridge, and around the Cut River. I never rode on those trails but heard that they were real nice. I ride alot in the western up and nothern lower and am looking for some new trails. Those trails are only a couples hours, at most, from my cabin in Atlanta. What kind of terrain do the trails consist of? Are the trails of decent size and marked good. I know I hit the two trails systems just north of Seney and just north of Newberry and the trails were a joke. All they were is motorcycle trails; no way in hell was my wide-*** quad gonna make it down them.

Checkout central U.P. specifically the Big Bay Area.-You won't be dissappointed.

Logleaper-

The trails are state snowmobile / ORV trails - there are many local and private trails that intersect. There are also multiple routes. Don't know about Cut river though.

Grizzman-

Yeah, definately stay on the trails - ORV's are prohibited on Lakeshore drive, with exception of a 3/4 mile stretch where the trail runs along the road. The terrain is varied; mostly sandy 2 traks - plenty wide for any quad. Some of the trail has mixed traffic (trucks, etc) that you run acrossed every once and a while (more during Bear season). Overall the trails are great, biggest complaint is the dust. Right now, there is LOTS of deep water toward the northern tip of Whitefish point. Only 4x4 quads OR really brave 2 wheeler pilots because of the water. It will probably start to dry up soon though. Some spots get bumpy, but if your runnin' a quad with good suspension, you'll enjoy it.

Ride on
