Default Plugs for Raptor

I've had trouble lately with fouling plugs in my Raptor. I've been Riding trails that are pretty tight so I can't open it up very often. I've cut two holes in the airbox lid to try and lean it out a little. Would a hotter plug help out? I've run NGK's with some success. I tried Champions and they fouled out within a few hours. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First off, use the stock plug - NGK DPR8EA9. Why would you use a Champion? I have run the same plug for months with no problems.

I bought the Campions at a local auto parts dealer cause the stock NGK was fouled out. I figured they wouldn't last long. I'll go back to the NGK's but I'm stilll surprised that its fouling with the lid opened up.

Are using the choke on startup?

Try the NGK Platinum. I don't know what the numbers are, but I started using them on my 250F. I've nuver had a problem with them in my Raptor and I ride everything from MX to crawling on trails.

Raptorx 44, I use the choke only if its been sitting for a few days. Anybody know what the recommended plug gap is? I'll try the platinum plug if I can find them.

You can use the NGK Iridium plugs, DPR8-EIX9. They are the same heat range as the stock plugs, but with the Iridium tip (I believe that the Iridium has replaced the platinum in the NGK plug line up).

They come pre-gapped and you can get them from Napa.

I run them and like them a lot, but they are expensive. In the end though, they last much longer.

NGK = No Good Kind. Just joking. I run NGK standard plugs and never have fouling trouble. I would be concerned about cutting the airbox without rejetting. That is dangerous. I would look elsewhere to find the cause of your fouling trouble.

Do you have blue exhaust smoke that would indicate you are burning oil? Your plugs may be oil fouled and that has nothing to do with your carbs. Maybe its time for a rebuild.

No blue smoke. Just black after several hrs of riding. Do my carbs need to be gone through? It really seemed to studder worse when I was going up steep inclines tha last time I rode. It also doen't idle well when I'm coasting down hills. I have to continually blip the throttle when the clutch is in. Like riding a 2-stroke. I'll certainly go back to the NGK's. Thanks for the Iridium part #.
