Chevy Diesel???
#1
Sorry to get off the subject, but has anybody heard any rumors about the new Chevy Diesel that is supposed to be released here in the next few months? One of the mechanics at the local dealership was telling me that the new Isuzu Chevy is using is pumping out a tad over 350 hp, and delivering 780 ft lbs. torque, all backed by an Allison tranny. Supposedly they're also claiming 19-24 mpg. If this is true, I'd like to pick up a new crew cab. Man, that setup should put the powerstroke and cummins both to shame.

Cowboy, this is never off the subject as we all have to haul our toys with a truck
Yes it is all true about the new 2001 chev and the Duramax Diesel with the new 5 speed allison auto trans!
But the Duramax only makes 300HP and 520TQ, still more than the dodge ISB and powerstroke

Thanks for the link, that is one heck of a good looking rig!!! Boy, that new Duramax 6600 is an impressive looking setup, especially with the added allison tranny. Should be about bulletproof, as well as one heck of a powerful workhorse, and good mileage as well. Better start saving my pennies, try to get one of those when they come out.
Thanks again,
Mike

If it is anything like the previous diesel trash GM has stuffed into their cars and pickups in the past, I wouldnt be suprised one bit. When you hear somthing like this you should consider the track record of the company you are dealing with. Remember the Gasoline V-8 that got turned into diesel by the GM enginers? HA. I am unimpressed with the 6.5 turbo they have now, I've spent time in one in a Suburban, and the naturally aspirated International (7.3) in my dad's F250 has more zip than the Chevy. International will probably come up with a second generation powerstroke after the Chevy and top them again! But, we'll just wait and see.

The new Duramax will be nothing like the currant 6.5. I to have driven the old 5.7 diesel that blew up withen 40,000 miles and it was a joke.. Check out www.thedieselpage.com as the guy as a 6.5 turning out more power than the currant Powerstroke! Yes the Ford 6.7Liter powerstroke II should be out withen 2 years along with dodges new mercidies!

I was just reading that DDailmler/Chrysler is completely denying that the new motor will be a Mercedes. At least that is what they are telling the people at Four Wheeler magazine. It is in the lettes section of the June issue.
The nice thing about this, is we, the consumer, always win. Chevy is going to release a new deisel that will out power the other 2. Then in a few years the other two will release something bigger, then Chevy will again, then.......
It keeps going. We all win.

After working on many chev's and many fords.. I realize that ford does stupid things.. like:
1. no axle drain or pumpkin cover on late 70's F-150 (it is welded shut)
2. impossable to remove exahust pipe on 85' bronco II without takeing the spair tire off!
3. put the oil filter on the back of the engine on 87' to 90' escorts so home oil changes are almost impossable

The reason you can not remove the cover on the old F-150's, is because you are looking at a 9" rearend. You remove the whole member. And don't say this is a bad idea, because the 9" is one of the most popular units in the world for racing and off roading.
Removing the spare tire is not that big of a deal, especially because you do not replace the exhaust very often. Maybe every few years. You should drop the spare to check it out every few months anyway. And off roader will ditch that location anyway.
And about the 87 to 90 Escort. Who drives one of them anyway? Thats like owning a Chevette. (no offence to anyone that does, I am just having fun).
No, all this is in fun, just pointing these out. I personally like Ford and Dodge better, but I would drive a Chevy anyday. Just don't try to get me in one of them imports.
