Ball Joint Studs Question
#1
I bought a 2002 500i last fall. Today I got a letter from AC saying that my particular ATV has never had a claim filed for the ball joint stud recall. The dealer (Reno Kawasaki/Arctic Cat) says the recall work was done before I bought it. If they did do the work it seems to me that they would have filed with AC for re-imbursement. They have tried to BS me on every other occasion that I've had to deal with them, so in the absence of real evidence I don't believe that they did the work. They did do something to the brake master cylinder because I can see the marks on the fitting where they used Vise-grips on it instead of a wrench.
Does anyone know how I can tell if the recall work has been done? Is there a difference in the old and new ball joints that I can tell by looking at them?
Thanks!
Bob

flash- I would call AC customer service @ 1-218-681-4999 and ask them to double check their records for the recall work. If they still say there is no record of it, I would take it to another dealer. That is a dangerous recall and not somthing to take a chance on if you are not 100% sure you can trust your dealer.
Then again your dealer would have to be an absolute fool to tell you they completed the recall work and did not. If you were to get hurt you would own that dealership.

I own a dealership and Arctic Cat is one of our lines. The easiest way to see if the warranty work has been done is look at the black caps on the spindle that covers the ball joint. It has a very thin lip so you can usually tell if a socket has been on it. You may have to pull a wheel off to get a closer look. They dont give much for warranty work so some dealers dont take the time to file the claim
