electrical problems????

Maybe someone out their could help me, I have a 2002 Cannibal, and this problems is killing me. I am in the navy, I work on electronic systems on the F-14 Tomcat, but this quad has me scratching my head. My battery keeps dying, something is staying on. I turn off the kill switch, and I take the key out, but If I don't start it for about 2 or 3 days, the battery is dead, leaving me to jump it. As of now I have been unhooking the pos side of the battery, and as soon as I hook it back up, it starts just fine. So I am almost positive that something is not turning off the way it should. Any suggestions?

Check your fuel pump termanals to make shure there not grounding out on the frame. there is a update kit with new termanal covers. Im not shure what else it could be but a short somewhere.

Get out you voltmeter and start tracing. Something is still drawing power so start at the battery and than test the connection until you come across where it quits drawing power.
I'm not the best at electronics. Do you have a Schamatic (SP)?

Swamper,
I am stuck with the same problem with my 03. I just pull the fuse after I ride for a temporary resolution. Its driving me nutty.
Let me know if you find something and I will do the same for you.
F-14 tech??? Do you work with Russ(TRXmadness) and those guys out at Oceana?

Do you have the battery tray update done. Its very hard to see if the front engine mount has rubbed through the case and drained the acid level down. This will cause a battery to discharge after sitting and cause hard starts. What is the parasitic drain after the engine is off, if it is enough to light a test light then the computer may not be shutting down and I afraid a new one might be in order or just disconect.

Best way to check for a drain on a battery is to remove the neg cable from the batt hook up one end of test light to cable and one end to neg of battery.Light should be off with key off if not keep disconnecting till light goes off whatever was disconnected last is the culprit.
My bet is the fuelpump is running. The fix for that is a new ecm it is caused by neg of fuelpump shorting which frys the ecm.You can get them fromOptimum.

My bet would go on a bad bat.I have had mine do it for at least 6 months before I finaly changed the bat. It now works fine.
One more thing to check would be to make shure the insulation on the wire behind the stator goes all the way up to the top were it comes through the case.I have heard of them not charging and draining bateries because the wire rubs on the stator and cuts away at it.

I had the same problem with our cdale. We took it back to the dealer and they said the charging sytem in the engine was not working properly. We got it back and the battery stayed up fine. We traded it for the Z the next week though. Hope that helps.
