the reason I asked is because someone said you needed to rejet for a new pipe.

Usually you do have to rejet for a new pipe. However, some pipes you don't. I'm not sure why this is but i think it might be because they dont give you much more power. Cobra pipes are decent pipes so i'm surprised that you might not have to change jets for that, but i dont like dg. All my friends that put DG pipes on their quads ended up selling them for a new pipe. I am looking at pipes for my 400ex right now. I am ether going with LRD, Curtis Sparks, CT, or Trinity.

do a search on this topic. you will find out that dg and cobra are some of the worst pipes made. others make more power and are of better quality. you will get the most gains out of a pipe from an engine builder. like someone already mentioned, curtis sparks is top notch. lrd and ct are excellent also. my friend has a big gun silencer and my gutted factory pipe puts out at least as much as his. you might be able to find good deal on those dg and cobra but thats because you get what you pay for. for these engine builders pipes, you will be dishing out at least $450.00 in order to get one. as for jetting, you always want to rejet with a new pipe. just call up the company you bought the pipe from, tell them what pipe you got and what bike your putting it on and they should be able to tell you what main, pilot, and needle position you should be using. make sure you tell them what filter your running and tell them if you have any airbox mods. you may have to tell them what altitude your at along with what temperatures your riding in. by putting on a pipe without jetting, you will not get any power. it may feel like you did but thats just because you have the extra noise and vibration from the pipe. good luck with your decision.
