Selling the Rappy for a Banshee....?
#1
I just built a new 686 for my raptor and It runs awsome... All these rod failures are scaring me. I was thinking of a Banshee anyways but this is starting to make my decision easier. I love my raptor but I don't want those types of problems and I don't mind doing new top ends every now and then. I ride mostly Dunes so a Two stroke might just be the way to go. What do you Guys think sell the Rappy and get a Shee or Keep it and hope for the best.

Lowbowtie,
Ive got a buddy with a Raptor and banshee. Both are a kick in the dunes but he has had two top ends put
in the Shee in the last year, probably around $600 or so each time. Not sure you would like the suspension
after riding the Rappy for some time either. Did you read up on the GasGas 300 single
cylinder two stroke? I believe it is coming out later this year. Sounds like a real screamer with a bunch of
goodies on it. I think they are selling it for around $9600 or so. I would hold on to the Rappy and cross
my fingers.

You sound just like me.
I did exactly what you are thinking of and dont regret it for one second. I much prefer the banshee and the only wrench time has been installing aftermarket parts.
It is your decision, but I would do it again in a second. As for the suspension, I actually prefer the banshee. I know, it is not as updated, but the seat is much more comfortable which I think helps make it feel better to me.
Anyway, like I said before I would do it again, but it is up to you.
If I were going to go four stroke I would get a ds. I had one of those also, and sold it, but I would not mine having another one. And I have two banshees now, but would take a few more if anyone wanted to hand them over.

Oh, and if they have put two top ends in a banshee in a year, he is either not running very good oil, or someone does not know what they are doing. If done properly it should last at least a couple of years.
I also know of some early 90's still running on the stock pistons, I am sure they could use a freshening up, but they still run and have fun.

Thanks Bat, I really like my Raptor Suspension and overall feel, Think maybe a RZ 400 motor would fit? I am going to take some measurements off the wifes Banshee motor and see if it might fit. I'm thinking it would be lighter than a Banshee with better Suspension. If that looks like it will work I'll run the Rappy til the Rod flies out! Does any one know if this has been done before?

I think it could be done, hell anything can be done with a torch and a welder.
good luck with however you choose to go. I like the new 450, but we will see when it actually hits the dunes what performance they really have.

banshee is a 20 years old engine,so it has been proven itself in the most
applications ever possible, never on the planet a stock 2 stroke will nee 2 rebuild in one year, there was something wrong with jetting,
new 4 stroke engine aren't much more reliable than ours 20 years old 2 stroke motors...
