You need to fill us in a little more.
Where you going to ride?
Do you need reverse?
How much do you want to spend?
Do you want to buy new or used?
Do you like any brands more than others?
How fast do you want to go?

We do need more info and an idea of what you like or if you have any choices in mind. Right off we know you're a good sized dude so I'm thinking you'll want something with plenty of power to pull your weight. Here's a few ideas, ds650, raptor660, kawasaki v-force700, new yamaha yfz450, polaris predator 500, and the z400 suzuki and 400kfx (same two bikes just different colors). We still need some ideas like the other guys said.

I have about the same question, I’m about 5'7 and 250-260lbs, I was looking at the z400 or the kfx400, my wife has a kawa 300 4x4, but I was looking at something sportier that would run a little faster and throw a lot more mud and dirt than the 4x4 and was lighter without having that quad utility look.
I would be mainly riding wooded trails, with logs and water and lots of mud in parts, and a field track my brother has at his house, no big jumping, maybe some small 2' -3' jumps, some hills, and riding in the snow. Of course I would like reverse, and speed isn’t really a big deal I don’t need to go wfo down a trail..
I thought about the kfx700 because its so much bigger, but I'm never gonna need all that power, and speed,
I was hoping to keep it under $6,000 out the door, tax and everything,
Any Thoughts

MikeCer- Yamaha just reduced the retail price of the Raptor to around $6200. So if you find the right dealer you should be able to get one for $6000. OTD or cheaper.
I wouldn't buy a Z400/KFX400 until they correct their problems. (axle & frame) I talked to a salesman at a dealer that sells Polaris, Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha. He said that he's never seen a frame so weak as the Z's and they've had several come back with problems.
The 400EX is selling cheaper. But no reverse.

You might consider a Polaris Scrambler. It has alot of the things you are looking for. Reverse and 4 wheel drive set it apart from a regular sport quad. I put 2000 miles on mine down in Windrock in Tennessee before I bought myself a Predator. If you're looking for a sport quad, I'd highly recommend the Predator.

I found a place in about 3-4 hrs away that has the 2003 Rapter 660R for $5,475 on their web page, but I didnt want anything that had too much power, I know, you can never have too much, but I want to have fun not wrap myself around a tree which is why I was looking at the z400 or the kfx400. I have heard of problems with the z400 but havent heard anything about the kfx400, i know they are the same but are they made at the same factory. for the money would it just be a better choice to get the Rapter and just not run it wfo.
