I had an 83 and an 86 with the new gen engine . They both had the same top speed as my buddies 250x which is arguably 51mph. I enjoyed both machines but the 86 was truely a beautiful design.

I remember reading in an atvsport (the original editors not the current ones) that the 86 200x did 65mph.
Almost same HP as 250x quad with 1 less wheel, less weight, and less wind resistance. Seems like it would do that. I rode one and it seemed to haul pretty good. Stayed with my warrior I had back then.
A Yamaha 225DX driven like a mad dog would actually stay with the warrior too. Alot of people dont know that.

I remeber that article too and didnt they say they were guessing and they got the number from running along side a car with a wavy speedo. Didnt the 200x have 14hp and the 250x have 17hp which works out to an almost eqaul ptw ratio? I installed a speedo on my cannondale and when I hit 65 you can tell by wind resistance that it is nowhere near the speeds I hit on my old 200x. A 350x which had over 10 more hp than the 200x can barley exceed 65mph. Now those were a handfull of fun. Ah the good old days.....

i'd have to dig up the magazine to see for sure. I could have swore I saw a pic in there of them with a radar gun. A 350X did have more power, but 10 more HP? I dont know. I do know that a good running 350x was right under a ATC250R in speed (in the honda lineup; i know a 86 tecate 3wheeler would MURDER every other 250) I think the 350x should do closer to 75mph. 86 ATC250R did well into the 80s (mph) easily. I can dig for that book too.

Its very hard to find actual radar numbers isnt it. On the other hand the number of top speed guesses are plentiful and shocking high(80mph warriors) I found one done by atc connection for the 300ex at 52mph. I will try to find last winters radar run results from a local event. This is very interesting.See what you can find.

haywoodjalikme: how would your 200x with performance parts with 13/38 gears and 20 inch tires go 63!??!?. Im pritty sure mine has more power than you but still you need the propore gears to go 63. mabey a 14 tooth front sprocket would do the trick. My 200X goes 53 on my 250sx speedo. with the same gears and tire hight as you.

you do the math, it went 53mph stock.....checked the new mph on blacktop right next to my cousin's Honda Goldwing. According to a formula given in Dirtwheels mag back in the late 80's by Sidewinder sprockets, just the gearing alone should add 6 mph.......domed piston, bigger carb, bigger jets and my Dg exhaust should be good for the other 4 mph I would hope.
