What's Faster... Raptor or DS....modded and stock
#1
What do you guys feel is faster? Naturally.. being this is a Yamaha forum and most never give a DS a fair shake.. most will say Raptor. I own both.. and I can honestly say my Raptor has MUCH more grunt on the bottom than a DS and is slightly easier overall to ride. Mid to top however DS feels like it has more. I wonder if the DS weighed as much as a Raptor...how much faster could it be.

Honest opinion and I am not being biased. My experience between both makes me lean more toward the Raptor being faster. But there will be and continue to be a lot of dispute to which is faster. Slim

I have a DS. I have ridden Raptors. The Raptor FEELS faster. It's not. I've proven it time and again. Both are awesome quads. There is not another sport quad out there built as strong as the DS, hence, the extra weight. I love'em both.

Me and my brother battled our way from stock to the stage 3 he has and my mild 686 I have now. 2 very even quads from the get go. I have 50 lbs on him though. The DS motor is stronger imo. The Raptor feels way faster when your riding it but that damn DS is always right there. There's probably no difference but the Bajas seem to be faster than the regular DS's. jmo

I can't see how the Baja's are faster, only thing is the rev limiter I hear is softer. They are heavier. Raptor does feel faster, the hit is more abrupt than the DS... but the DS defintely has a deceptive power. I rode a Shee that felt fast as all hell but my friend's DS spanks it every time. I believe if you switched motors the Raptor would be faster with the 650 in it.
Fit and finish hands down the DS takes the cake. Everything from seat, chain adjustment to adjusting carbs is 1000 times simpler than the Raptor. I also think the DS needs reverse more so than the Raptor. I have in my opinion the two best quads in the world. Everything else is meidocre to me.. I need to test ride a KXF700. Only thing out there that impressed me was the Suzaki machines which ride very nice.

The new DS's are definately faster than Raptor's in stock form. However the Raptor's pick up more ponies from a pipe change. Thus the Raptor's are a little quicker than DS's when they're both in piped form.

Great discussion guys!
One things for sure, the DS is ALOT easier to work on than the Rappy. Bombardier really took their time on engineering this quad. The Rotax engine is Great, and I would LOVE to see someone put the DS engine in a Z400 or a EX! THAT WOULD BE A ROCKET!!

well i have both and i think that in total stock form the ds is faster than the raptor.the 2003 baja that i just bought feels much faster from third gear to fifth than the raptor when it was stock but they feel pretty even up to that point.the ds has a very two stroke like feel to it past about 5000 rpm and seems to pull harder in the midrange than the raptor.since i have both i feel qualified to say that the overall build quality on the baja looks to be much better especially in the frame and welds that hold the frame together.if i can find a quiet enough pipe for the baja i think it will run side by side with my 686 raptor but until then it is very fast for a stock machine.

Boy, this is a nice post........ I agree with wshrdskin, me and my buddy (bigbaja) Scott have been battling out since the beginning and I cant say his ride is bad, not at all, actually its a biga$$ cadilac and rides smooth across the sand, but in the beginning, I womped on him all the time, then we got pipes and jetted and I womped on him again and ol Scott dont like it a bit so he had to stick mo money in it and bore the thing out and now he is faster than me.... hmmm makes me want to spend some money on mine and womp him again but I will give him some more glory to play around with....hehehehe
