as you can see from my message title i am looking for a reasonably quiet slip on pipe for my baja and i need to be at or below 96 decibels but i would prefer to be as low as 93 or 94.what i am looking for is a pipe that will be at least close to the legal limit where i ride which is 93 db.to gain significant performance with such a quiet pipe is asking a lot but i am hoping maybe some of you have some ideas on what has worked for you.i thought that i would just leave the baja totally stock but that is easier said than done because i really hate to ride a four stroke that is choked up with the restrictive stock exhaust so i hope someone has an opinion on this.if any one has experience with a quiet pipe that works for them on their ds i would also like to know what main jets you are running.thanks in advance for your responses.

The pro circuit t-4 is good when the screen is left in and a small tip

I have the FMF PC4 and its not quite 102db but its plenty powerfull
The MBRB is the going norm for quiet with good power results....

 

MBRP make good power, or white bros with the discs, but white bros doesnt perform as well

 

you don't want a pipe for a ds. Hell they are all loud. MBRP is probably your best bet. Once you hear that big thumper bark without a sprak arrester you are hooked and hunting more horsepower. Can't sneak around with this one.

 

I've been researching this myself. Although I agree that none of them will be very quiet, I have narrowed down my choices to the White Brothers R-4 or the HMF. They both offer a quiet core which costs $35 - $40. Each pipe / core can be seen at their websites. As of now, I'm planning on getting the pipe and trying it before I order the quiet core.

I have the Hmf and its loud but not obnoxious. The quiet core cost 20 buck ordering from hmf. The pipe have good boost in mid range and for and extra 20 the will polish it. Can't go wrong for the price and it installs in 10 minutes. have not hit the swingarm either.

 

If you need quiet you probably need USFS approved. The HMF isn't! (Unless the quiet core adds that feature.)

I would probably look at Yoshi.

I have the ProCircuit and took the screen out (standard end cap) and it didn't seem any louder. I have a quiet core insert but, it is going to be used on my YZ426F ProCircuit pipe! I have never tried it on the DS, looks way to restrictive!

 

If a spark arrestor is not required I would just cut it out of the stocker and put that cash in on something else, I don't see gaining anything but looks and weight reduction going with aftermarket silencer. And you could be sure that it was legal. Beats gambling $200.

As for jetting, if you leave stock filter in, or change filter and leave lid and hoses on, no jetting changes should be necessary in my opinion. I ran a UNI with lid & hoses with a mikuni 172.5 on for a while, then put a Yoshi with arrestor in and had to pull hoses off or it would stumble at WOT.
