I am looking at buying a air cooled Atc R motor for my R quad, Will the motor overheat in my quad frame? The atc pipe wont work will it?

The motor from the ATC 250r's (86) and the quad 250r's are practically the exact same except for a little different gearing. As for gearing the ATC is a little higher. The ATC motor will go in the TRX frame with no modifications. As for a pipe, just bolt on a TRX 250r pipe and you are ready to go, no the ATC pipe wont work, but as I said a TRX pipe will work on the ATC motor.

He was talking about an '84 or older air cooled 250R engine. I don't believe it will bolt up, but could be mistaken.... You would be much better off with a liquid cooled version....

the air cooled motors from 81-84 had the drive sproket on the right hand side of the motor, you would have to flip the carrier or something to get it to work on an R quad

Dill,

You have it backwards, the drive sprocket is on the left side on the air cooled motors and on the right side on the liquid cooled ATC engines. As for Trick250Rx I am not sure about it mounting up right. Honda's motors in the 81-82 had the motor just bolt to the frame, but for the 83-84 the motor mounts to the frame and the shock tower, I don't know how the quad frame hooks up and as for overheating I'm not sure, I think the quad frame weighs a little more than the ATC frame so you would have to jet it a little bit richer. I would go with the liquid cooled engines unless you were going to put a 81-82 air cooled engine in it because those were the Elsinore engines and were the best for all around power.

thanks for the replies, Currently I have a 250X engine in the R chassis, which is stripped to the frame, so weather of not it bolts right up doesnt matter since I will have to fab motor mounts anyways, as far as the sproket side that could be a problem, I am waiting on him to email me back what year it is, I am puting of reassembling my quad because of this motor, I havent found a Liquid cooled that I can afford so its got to be this one,

Are you sure you know left from right? <G> The liquid cooled motors have the drive sprocket on the left side. You know, the same side that the shifter is on?

nooo...liquid cooled motors have the drive sproket on the left side, the air cooled is on the right. I used to have an air cooled R, and now I own a liquid, trust me, I know

Would I be able to just flip the bearing carier? I noticed that the brake plate has top have that bracket to keep it from moving, SO the brake wouldnt work on that side, would I have to use the atc swing arm? or would it the swing arm even work?
