I have been using the Garmin GPS 12 for the last 4 years. I use it for everything that has to do with riding. From the Desert, to the mountains to just plain ol' rock hopping. I haven't had a single problem with it and I have had it mounted on my handlebars, where the shock is the greatest. To my fenders where it worked equally as well, I now velcro it to my gas tank and it's been through rain and snow and like a timex, it takes a licken and keeps on tickin.

Magellan 315 That's what I have, it works great but it likes to use batteries it will last about 12 hours on one pair just be sure to carry extras. As for durability its great its waterproof and I haven't been able to scratch the screen at all I'm totaly satisfied with it

I made mine , but they are available through Garmin. You should also be able to get one at the nearest Academy sporting goods store.

From what I have been reading on the Garmin website scanned maps cannot be downloaded onto the gps receiver.

Take a look at http://joe.mehaffey.com/ There's alot of information on GPS's there. I use a Garmin 3+ and it's been great. For a mount I took a flat piece of aluminum and cut a round hole in it so that is fits under the gas cap (so it's pinched between the tank and cap) and then mounted the GPS to the aluminum with velcro and a zip tie for a little extra security.

I have a Magellan 315. It works good but it seems to lose satelite coverage every once & a while. This could be the mountains obstructing the signal.

This things eats 2 AA batteries about every 12-13 hours of operations.
