1998 Scrambler 500 upgrades
#1
Just became a new member. This is a very cool place. First things first the name I purchased it just before Easter the color oh well with (good?) friends nothings safe.
Onto the machine it is 100% stock. I would like to purchase new tires & wheels. I like the Maxxis All Trax for my type of riding ( 60% hardpack 40% mud ) but the fronts are not available. I like mud but do not want a pure mud tire. The only ones to consider are the Bear Claws with an 11" front wheel (23x8x11). Any Scamblers with this set up tell me what you think. Any other tire combo info will help also.
The split brake offered by R&R. Any info, how does it operate and how does it work on the trail.
And last anyone else hate their gas mileage 40 to 45mi till it hits reserve? Had a 435 Warrior that got better mileage per tank.
All in all I love the machine. 2 yrs. never been left on the trail or towed out. Other than normal pm maintenance have only replaced belt and brakes once.

I own a Scrambler400 and I have stock fronts and Bearclaws in the rear. They are amazing tires. I went riding last weekend and went through a lot of mud...I forgot to put it in 4x4 and it went through great! The only thing I noticed about my Bearclaws is that around 40 mph on hard-packed, they get a bit noisier than I thought they would. Must be that I was used to my Xplorer with 25" tires??? Besides that they are amazing. I might put some up front this summer.
