Default 38mikuni on 400, which cable?

Do I have to bypass the oil injection pump if I want to install a 38 tmx flatslide on my 400? I noticed the cable from the stock round slide will not fit and I can't use the cable that belongs to my 38 due to the fact that it doesn't have the splice/secondary cable to run the oil inj. pump. I would like to keep the pump if I can, so long as they are not to prone to failure.

The stock cable should work, it did on mine. They are not prone to failure, but if you do or have alot of mods, it is a good idea to chuck it and go with pre-mix. What exactly doesn't fit or why do you think it won't fit?

The 38 I have doesn't have threads in the top of carb for the brass adjuster at the end of the stock cable. Also. the lead looking ball at the end of the stock cable that hooks into the slide on the stock carb is too big to fit into the one on the 38. I could shave it down to fit and just let the threaded adjuster sit inside the top cover of the 38 but I was hoping there was an easier way.

You sure that is a TMX and not TM carb?? Sounds funny.. Mine has a threaded cap, I had to remove a piece or two to give me correct length, but it worked. Also, the lead ball was big but fit into little white plastic piece. Where did you get the carb?

It could very well be a TM and not a tmx. It came off a LT500 Suz. 1988. I thought book said it was a tmx but now that you mention it I do remember the two having different tops..??

I am not sure if the tops are different or not, but it sounds like it. The TMX has TMX on the side of the slide housing while the TM has TM on the slide housing. If it turns out to be a TM, you may have to get creative and figure out a way to make it work. Find out whether it is a TM or not and I will try to help you out with that.

Okay, I am looking at the carb. It has a pad on the side next to the slide housing and stamped into is the number 43B then the #10 below it. There is another pad below that one that says T 7 with Y 5 below it. These are the only numbers anywhere on it. I dug out the manual and it does say TM38SS.

For a few points of ref., Hot Seat sells the TMX, and Motion Pro should be able to help with any cable complications. Go with the pre-mix, loose that extra high CG mounted weight in the full oil tank.

The injector pumps can be trouble- i had two pumps break - two fired engines- now i premix 40:1 using Klotz and premium gas. I replace the oil line to the front oil tank and put a gas line on it. when flattrack racing i use the front "oil"tank as my main race tank and then i only put a gallon or two in the gas tank. less weight. when trail riding i use the front tank as an extra reserve tank. when you go to the single throttle cable- thumb throttle is easier to move and doesn't wear your thumb out. just a thought.

Like Modquad said, Motion Pro should be able to help with the cables. The TM should work fine with the 400 though.
