HONDA SAYS 3.5 TO 4. Highlifter says around 6. What do you guys run? Also how do you measure the tire pressure? A mechanic friend of mine said that with atv tires, gauges were not accurate and instead a person should measure the circumference. Thoughts?

All I know is that if I run anything less than 10 pounds in a .190 rim and jump anything longer than 20ft I stand a good chance of waffeling the rim. On the other hand that high a pressure seems to slide a little more than I want.

Tempest,

I use about 4psi. To check it I use the low pressure guage that came with the machine. Works well.

The recommended maximum inflation is usually printed on the tires. The recommended inflation is printed in the owners manuals or service manuals. It is usually in the 5 psi neighborhood.

I run 6 psi all around. I run Bandit xc's and I think it depends on the brand of tire, the terrain, and the type of riding that one does. In talking with a tech at Pure Sport he recommended 5 psi in Bandits, but I find 6 to be more to my liking for the rocky terrain in Az. some of the thinner sidewalled tires such as Oatsu or Turf Tamer may benefit from slightly higher pressure to lessen rollover in cornering.

My EX rolled off the showroom floor with 4psi, and the tires rolled over badly in the corners, kept wanting to tip over instead of slide the *** around, so I aired em up to 5psi (still factory tires), and it seems to feel quite a bit better, might go for more pressure if it doesn't ride too rough (I'm not good enough to catch big air yet anyways, so I don't have to worry about denting rims, haha)

I'm with DJ on both ends. I run 4 p.s.i. in the 'Cats, and I also agree that the low pressure guage that comes with the bike is about the best way to check pressure. They have low pressure dial type guages at places like Cabela's for pretty cheap which also work well.

Hey Motorhead:
How's your new machine holding up? You still happy with it? Hope it's still treating you well.

Mike

tempest are the tires stock or they aftermarket? they should have the max pressure make shure (you don't get the max to seat the bead) then try differnt pressure if you are in soft stuff like snow mud sandy you can use lower.

The tires are stock and the manual says 3.5 - 4 lbs. When I visited the Tech Tip section at Highlifter one of the tips was to increase the tire pressure. I have tried it and to be honest I like it better.

Ohhhh baby, I couldn't be more happy with it! Been taking it out every weekend since I got it. Just did the first oil change and inspected everything; looks good, runs great! After riding the EX around for a few weeks, I hopped back on the 'ol 300 4x4 for a bit; holy hell I didn't remember them being THAT slow!! Man, talk about a night-and-day difference. Been working on doing some basic stunts, wheelies, jumping, etc. Not good enough to star in Huevos III, but I'm workin on it, haha.

After reading these post I went to check out Rancher's tire pressure, No pressure gauge, damn the dealer ripped me off! I had to use my wife's gauge from her Recon. I guess all of the Honda gauges are the same.
