Default 2004 SP 400 Problems.Help!

Bought my son a 400 sp, and when the steering is turned to the left, the RPM's go up-as this is a dangerous situation.....I popped off the left side panel and pulled lightly on the black cable leading to the carb, and the RPM increased.. I tried to reposition it but it still does the same...if it moved ever so slightly it causes a increase in the RPM's.....So I tried my best to reposition it where it was and all is good, but the RPM still increases when turned to the left..

2nd...The dang thing keeps poping out of gear..Low or High under a load..like climbing a steep incline / or just backing off the throttle......It doesn't do it all the time, but at least twice during a day's ride....

I didn't buy it here locally, as the dealer here is a different breed, I asked him about fixing it under warrenty, and he said he would, but it would be about 3 weeks till he could get it in, as he takes care of his local buyers first.
I have no proof to go to Polaris with on this comment, but I did try to buy one from him, but saving $400.00 and getting a EBS for nothing, was all I needed to look somewhere else....The dealer I bought it from is 200 miles away.........

So I'll try to fix it myself with a little help from you guy's......

So. any input would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Just a note to all..Fixed what I needed to get it right.

FYI- on the 04's there is a cheap plastic adjustment on the throttle side, and it was adjusted to tight, I gave the throttle 1/8" of play and theis corrected the prob.

On the linkage- I adjusted the rod by loosing the (2) locking nut's and counted the turns of the shifting rod forward till snug and then backed it out till snug in the reverse. I ran the locking nut in against the adjustment rod and counted the flats on the nuts and rotated the rod till the rod got snug again, split the difference of the # of flats I came up with and backed the rod against the nut's.................adjustment is spot on...no more popping out!

Fixed-done-Happy.......Now if I could get the 400Sp to at least come close to my 400 xplorer in a drag race, but the xpolore just walkes away from it HARD...Very Hard...

Yeah, after trying over two months to find a decent one, I was going in circles....
Even 3 year old ATV were beat to hell...and if not beat up, just left out in the sun to fade out...

I went and looked at a 2002 400 SP and I was told only 700 miles on it, well it did, but it had been left out so long I had to scratch at the spedo to remove the faded plastic to tell if it did have 700 miles....

SO after a long quest, I said heck with it and bought a 2004- I was going to go for the 2003-but for $100.00 more and free EBS, I couldn't pass on the 2004 model.......

Thanks for you help on here, as I my need to call on you again, and ig you have anything I can help you out on let me know.... Sure would be nice if some of us could get together and ride!!!! We still have alotof wide open spaces here that aren't shut off YET!!!

No problem. Hope you enjoy the sportsman. Need any help just holler. I know what you mean about the ridings areas. The DNR wants to clear cut 350 acres in my riding area. Boy was I pissed when I heard that
