Opinions On The YFZ As An All Around Machine ????
#1
YFZ owners, is this bike going to make it as an all around ride (eg. desert cross country, trail, dunes), or is it going to be strictly a track bike??

I got mine on the 3rd of july and absolutely love it. I took it on a 35 mile trail ride today in the mountains and it did great. The gearing is close together which is what I like so I loved it on the trail. I also ride in the sand and I feel the machine is good for about anything. Get one and you will not be dissapointed.

All I heard was it would not be a good trail bike, because why? Too low, Too wide or what. Some say not even a good duner, why? I don't understand why so many people are making it out to be just a race quad? I understand the extensive maintenance and upkeep, but I'd like to have one for an all around bike.

It will be a great all around machine... At least as good as anything else out there.
It should be a very fun duner, although if you have to be "the fastest guy out there" you'll be best served by a large displacement, heavily modified 2 or 4 stroke.
The shocks may be a touch stiff for casual trail riding by some first reports I've heard, but the good thing is that the stock shocks are rebuildable - which means you can send them off to your favorite shock tuner to get them tweaked in to your liking at a fraction of the cost of replacing the shocks like you have to do on other quads.

I think it will make a good all around quad also. I like the lower gearing for trail riding, that way you don't have to keep it revved all the time when you're in a tight spot that you have to go slow in. I don't know if it is worth the money just to trail ride though. I think the price is cheap for a pretty much race ready quad, if you're a racer, if not I don't know if I would pay $7000 to $8000 when I could get a bike for $5000 or cheaper for trails. I don't think none of the sport quads are the best for trails. They are fast and fun but you can still go more places with a utiility. I think sport-utilities are the best all around quads.

Get one you'll love it, I also have a KFX 400 and the YFZ is stronger all around and the suspension is unbelievable. Yes I do miss reverse but the bike is really strong.
