Loose Steering Stem Rivets
#5
The same thing happened on my 99 Sport, I replaced it with an HPD brass steering post bushing, $35. The difference was incredible. It is quite tight for the first hour or two of riding. It is actually a bearing, not a bushing. It's very easy to install. RcR has them, you can call them at 618-644-3211

Mine were loose from the show room floor. but I was expecting that after reading up on them. what I wasnt expecting was the was how weak the steering stem is. It flex's and twists like a wet noodle. It will eventually be replaced with the hotseat stem along with the silly lower bearing.

Rob,
I've just replaced the steering stem bearing on my Trailblazer. It was a lot of fun. Many magic four letter words were uttered by me in order to get it to fit. You'll need a 90 degree angle drill to drill out the rivets. If you have a machine with a radiator, lots of luck, you'll have to remove it along with the tie rod bolts and the upper steering post bearing bolts.

My steering was loose from the begining also. 2000 Srambler 1 month old. I thought is was normal play until I read this. I looked at it yesterday. I can not belive Polaris puts together a heavy well made machine and uses small rivets to hold all the stress of the steering. Stupid. Mike says that it is a bitch to put the after market bearing in. I am wondering if I should just get the bolts put in mine. I need to see how much the stem is flexing first. If it is as bad as you guys say I will do it. How much is the stem and bearing?
