Default 86 Honda 350 shock question

I recently had a 86 Honda 350 foreman give to me. The shocks are just completely wore out and the ride could be best compared to falling down a set of stairs. Now I know the ride on these bikes are not great to begin with, but the rear shocks that are on it now stick and will not rebound at times when i shove down on the rear rack. I priced a set of o.e. replacement shocks at the local Honda shop, and they quoted me $170 some odd dollars apiece. I also went to a junkyard and was quoted a price of $50 apiece for the old shocks there. Now i just can't see paying $50 for something that is just as old as the shocks i have. They are a little softer than what I have now, but who knows how long they will last.

My question is can anybody tell me with any certainty whether or not a set of truck shocks will work on an ATV. I have never heard of it being done, but if i could find a set of shocks the right length and similar spring rate, i cannot see why this will not work. I wouldn't mind bolting a set of Rancho 5000's on the thing and calling it good if it will work. The old shocks are coilovers and are the same length on the front and the back.

And if this idea is not possible, does anybody know of any vendors the sell aftermarket shocks for this bike? I have checked the Dennis Kirk website and did not find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Default 86 Honda 350 shock question

I think you should spend the 50 bucks. Finding truck shoncks that are coil overs would be hard. Espesialy finding the right lenght. I have built a snowmobile with long travel indepent suspesion. We went to autozone and bought 2 red ryder shocks (12$ each) but they didnt have coils on them. So we bought a overload coil set for a truck. Its just a spring and two clamps that clamp on the shock. Of coarse the clamps were the wrong size so we had two make our own. Well in the end we had 17.9 inchesof travel. More than any production snowmobile.
