400ex for mud and water?
#1
hey guys, how well does the 400 ex do in water and mud? does it put through water and mud well or do u have to tear through it to get through? does it do very well in technical trails and water holes? or is it just a fast trail and dune quad.

One Word: Tires
it has the power and stance for just about anything you want to do with it, you just have to know what your doing. tires are the main difference between ripping through mud and crusing through it.
The Stock tires are sweet for riding on solid and semi loose dirt, they bog down in sand, and even though ive never riddin a 400 in mud, they're a wide dirt tire, so they most likely dont provide the best tarction in the world when it gets slippery. im sure they're still ok though.

the right tire will let the 400ex do whatever it wants to.
I still have the stock tires on mine I do alright in the water, but have trouble in mud.
i'll soon need new tires, thinking about a set of Razers.

stock they aren't all that great in the mud, i had an ol lt185 that would walk past them in the mud, buts because of only 1 reason, TIRES! i had bearclaws on that lt185, but if you put bearclaws or a similar tire and it'll go threw quite a bit, until the swingarm gets caught up

I ride with ex's all the time and they do fine through water and suck in mud just like mine. If you had some differnent tires I'm sure they'd do a little better but mud is four wheel drive territory or at least REAL mud (the deep stuff). Now if you have a running shot and can hit about 30mph you can get through some mud pits and it's fun just have some buddies that can help pull or push you out. They go through water great, a big utility quad will go through the water faster because of all the weight and four wheel drive but you'll make it through most anything in water they will UNLESS there's some mud under that water. My z has suprised me with what it will go through. I'll admit I've been stuck quite a few times but I get stuck on my four wheel drive rancher too. The ex is just as good as any sport quad for trails with mud or going through creeks that aren't too high. I think the ex is a decent dune quad but it's not got enough power to really fly through sand. It is a great trail quad except for that darn no-reverse. I don't know why Honda made such a good quad in every respect except for no reverse. Oh well it's pretty light so pushing it ain't too bad unless you've really got to push it up a steep incline.
