Anyone Who knows about 2 strokes HELP!!

My two stroke bike is extremely hard to start. You have to crank it over at least 50 times for it to start. When it finally does start it only runs with the choke on. As soon as you turn off the choke it idles for about 5 seconds and dies. Someone told me it could be some kind of seal in the bottom end for pressure???, or it could be rings???. If anyone knows about this seal or anything else that could be wrong with it I would appreciate it if you would help me out. I would hate to pay the dealer $40 an hour.

hmmm.....is it getting a good spark? check and see if the spark is a blue-ish-purple color. If its an orange color u have a weak battery (excessive cranking), or the starter may be goin bad. Is the spark plug good? i dunno ive never really messed with electric 2-strokes.

Sounds really lean, make sure your air filter is on correctly or doesnt have a gaping whole in it. It sounds like your buddy may be talking about the crank seals. They need replaced on 2 strokes periodically aswell, if they are bad they can suck air through the crankcase and lean out the mix quickly

I looked at the air filter and it seems good. I even took it completely off and it didn't make a difference. Crank Seals could be what my buddy was talking about. He said he knows there has to be so much pressure in the engine and if theres not enough it would be hard to start. Does anyone else agree that if these seals are bad it could lower the pressure in the engine. If so how many seals are there and how much do they cost to replace.

They wont lower the compression if they are bad. They seal the bottom end. The crank which is horizontal, has to extend past the side cases to drive the tranny, and flywheel. The crank seals help seal the bottom end so when you piston is coming down the positive pressure in the bottom end can push a new fuel/air charge into the combustion chamber. If they are bad, less charge gets pushed up - meaning less power (or no fire until you add tons of fuel to compensate -like the choke). Also the opposite can happen, excess air will get sucked in to the bottom end through the tranny.
All in all it sounds like you may need seals bro.
at 120psi I think you are OK on compression. 80psi or so is the least amount need to fire.

I just talked to my buddy and he said crank seals were what he was telling me about. He said that if there bad it wolt suck enough gas up into the cylinder, but if you keep cranking it about 50 times it will build up enough pressure for it to start. If this sounds right to anyone else let me know. I want to make sure this is what it needs before I go get them and put all the work into changing them. Anyone know approximately how much they cost.
