k&n air filter

Shouldn't need to be.
Everytime I have purchased one it says pre-oiled.
Oh. . . wait. . . I bought some crank-case little filters and they were not pre-oiled.
Simple way to know. . .
If they are pinkish they are all lubed up and ready to go
If they are white you have to lube them before you use them
(Yes, I am still talking about the filters!)

If you read the instructions with the filter, it says to DOUBLE OIL filters for off-road. To me, that means the factory oiled it once, and you should oil it AGAIN. If you notice, right out of the box, the filter is very dry. After a cleaning I oil my filters once, let them sit overnigt, then oil them again. Better to much oil, than not enough!!

Don't know if I agree with that.
I won't battle you just give reasons why I don't think double oil is good:
1. Oil is meant to grab the dirt as it passes through the membrane. Too much oil and the pores get cloged and now you don't have a filter that is very open and free-flowing.
2. Messy - Oil can drip from these filters for days if they are oiled too much. I don't want any of that oil getting into my carb, intake or engine
3. Use an outerware - that will knock down the big stuff and keep your filter much cleaner overall.
I can't say I have seen directions for off-road use so, that could very well be what they say.

I have 3 filters for each of my bikes, but can you believe I didn't save the package inserts from any of them? It DEFINITELY SAYS TO DOUBLE OIL FOR OFF-ROAD, CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT, ETC!! It may not be on the instructions, but was in some literature that came along with the filters. It doesn't stand out, and it took me a while before I noticed it!! Anyway, if you don't want to, hey it's your engine, not mine!
