Default buying an ATV

Hey everyone, hows it goin? I'm new here and not so used to the forums. So, I'd like some advice as to which high performance quad to buy. See, I currently have an 02' recon 250 and it seems that I've just outgrown the power, handling, and suspension. I ride trails, woods, dunes, desert, and climb hills with my cousin who has a polaris sportsman 700, and frankly I just cant keep up. I would like to know which quad would be better suited for my riding conditions and could meet or exceed the characteristics of my cousins 700. I'm 16, 6'1 and 150 lbs. I've never ridden a manual quad, but I drive other manual vehicles. Again...I'm kind of looking for a lot of power, good handling, and decent suspension but without an "out of this world" price ($8,000). I appreciate any responses, thanks

Hey, welcome to the forum! I don't have a big quad as you can tell by my name but from the way I hear it a 700 Kawi prairie will spank the big Sportsman in speed and handling. From the looks and hearsay of the Sportsman, not much of anything can beat it in the mud and it has one of the best rides available. The Arctic Cat 650 should give it a real good run for the money once its out but look for it to be pricey as well. If money is an important factor, you should check out a Suzi Vinson. Its enough to hang with the big Sportsman performance wise but he'll still leave you behind in deep mud. Again, this is all hearsay for I have an Ozark and it will smoke them all...........hehe! j\k

hey man thanks alot, I was thinking more in the sport quad/high performance area. I'd also like something that is modifyable and that can be set up for the riding I do. I've been thinking about a Z/KFX, a Raptor, and maybe even a banshee...I havent heard a lot of good things about the predators reliability so I'm not sure if thats the way to go. Again thanks for the reply, it wouldn't hurt to get more info

i wouldnt do a banshee just yet if I were you. they require more finesse with the clutch than alot of other bikes out there, so if you are not used to the clutch- then this may confuse the learning process.
I would reccomend the z/kfx. raptors are ok but they handle a little more tippy than the z/kfx do.
This may start a war on here, but I've ridden them and thats how they feel to me..to each his own though.

cool, I was wondering if the Z/KFX is hard and takes a lot of time & money to make it competitive with a sportsman 700 on the trails, woods, hills, dunes, etc. Same thing with the raptor....I appreciate the responses, they're helping a lot because I'll be getting a quad in a matter of weeks and finding the right one is important to me. Later

I’m not sure if this was already talked about but I did notice the names of a Z-400 and rappy. I know they both have problems but a cracked frame sounds a lot cheaper and easier to fix than a busted tranny. correct me if I’m wrong on any of my opinions I have mentioned in that brief sentence. I have herd things about both but to me so far the Z has always had first place in my head.

cool guys, I guess Z it is I sat on the rappy and the KFX and they were both comfortable but the raptor feels a little tall compared to the KFX. If I want to modify this quad what do you suggest for trail riding, hill climbing, woods, and drag racing? I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions, thanks.
