Wiseco Pistons in my shee
#1
Hey, I am going to pick up my new banshee tonight I t is an 01. It's bored 0.0020 over and has wiseco pistons, and port and polish. Iam not an expert with these mods, but I have heard tha the wiseco pistons only last a season or so. Do I have to buy new pistons every season, or am I thinking wrong?. If so, They are expensive aren't they? I am only 14, and Probably can't afford to get new parts every season. Could I put the stockers back in or would i have to buy a stock head and sell the bored out one? Thanks

how much do you weigh? how many years riding? hieght?
the bike itself if a time bomb, but it'll get down pretty good. something you and your parents should be worried about, this bike is no slouch. i would look deeper into something like a banshee with pipes and filter (jetted of course) with low hours and as you get more familiar with the bike you can began to mod and research your options. just dont buy someone elses headache.
as far as wiseco goes i have heard nothing terrible about them. most people that go aftermarket piston raise the compression anyways so it's a differing factor.

we already gave the guy $100 to hold it so it's pretty much a done deal, so I'll have to live with it, I don't think That I'll have to rebuild it every season by the way I ride it. So far no one has answered my question about the pistons and if I have to get new ones every time I rebuild it. If I do, I think I might try to sell the head and pistons and buy a stock heads and pistons, I can do that right? I don't know that much about these types of mods yet. Thanks oh, I have been riding 2 strokes for about 8 years, and I weigh around 135 I am bout 5'8

Start looking on ebay. they have all kinds of parts. Just because you have wiseco pistons doesn't mean you will have
to rebuild it more. Just keep the air filter clean & take care of your new bike and you should be able to get 2-3 years out
of the top end, depending on how much and how hard you ride.

I got it all figured out now, Someone told me that it would need to be redone every season. They also said something about the piston blowing up and that threw me off. I just picked it up a few minutes ago and I took it up the street . It was good.

No to answer your question. If you run a good oil not like the 2 stroke oil at wal-mart something like Klotz or Maxima 927 and mix it to the proper mixture it will last for a few years easy. If you start to feel a power loss next year you may need to get a set of rings not pistons and a mild hone new gaskets and your done . The top in rebuild without pistons will run ya around 110 dollars if you do it yourself and with piston and no bore add about another 100 . To let you know my son MX raced a 97 banshee bored 60 over on Maxima 927 at 44 to 1 for 2 years with no top end work at all. Im sure if your new to the banshee it will take you a bit to run it as hard as we do racing so use good oil in both the mixing with gas and also a good case oil for the bottom end changed every 5 hrs of riding and you have a blast. Be safe cause at 14 you have a hand full.

every season just do a compression check. once the compression gets low then it is time for a top end rebuild or simply a re-ring job. you only rebuild with new pistons and cylinder bore if the cylinder is extremely scored and the piston is damaged. you dont get a new head and cylinder as you are suggesting that you want to do, this would just be a waste of money. so here is the low down if you are running at the redline all day long and you want top performance all the time then yes it is going to need a rebuild more often. if you just putt around and have fun and dont scream it all day long(which is hard not to do on a banshee) it may last without full rebuild for 2 to 3 seasons. just as racer425 said use a good oil and mix it at no leaner than 32:1 and by the way you ride the machine should hold up. although if it were me i would re-ring every 40-50 hours just to be on the safe side for cheap maintenence. and trust me, if you have no mechanical background a modified banshee is really not for you.

by the way a piston doesn't just blow up for no reason. there has to be a cause such as a bent rod or bad bottom end bearing(s). also what type of port work does it have done. a mild mx port, or a full race top end port. this all affects the longevity of the engine as well. good luck and dont get hurt cuz that banshee can easily kill you.

By the way that the original owner talked about it and the way he said he rode it, I would guess that it is just a mild port job. He didn't specify. and thanks for that last comment lol
