Default Grizzly 660 Problem

Hey guys,

Was out riding the Grizz this weekend, everythings going good, Just about to roll her over to 1700 miles. I let the g/f drive and all of a sudden, it bogged down and shut off, like I was out of gas. There was plenty of gas in it...

I started it back up, and it died again, so I switched it to reserve and off we went, no problems. We went about 3 more miles, and it did it again, this time it won't restart.

It almost seems as there is no compression, because I can pull the motor over quite easy, and when I push the starter it doesn't sound quite right.

I pulled the plug, and it still in tact, a little dark, but not to bad, I tried to check for compression, but couldn't get my thumb over the hole.

Anyone have any ideas? It is getting spark, both times when it died was when the EBS was kicking in.

Another question, if I had no compression, would I feel a puff of air coming out the exhaust when I was trying to start it?

Thanks!

-Jared

Default Grizzly 660 Problem

The whole putting it in reserve and it running again makes me think this...

Did you check to see if gas is actually comming into the carb? (pull the line off comming form the pit **** to the carb with the gas on)

Just thinking maybe the pit **** was getting stoped up and when you went to reserve it let it flow again.(at least for a little bit and then it may have stoped up as well) Just an idea.

If your quad won't run there is four things that you need to check.

1- Is it getting air intake into the carb? check air filter.
and is your exhaust spark arrester clogged? clean carbon deposits off of screen.

2- Do you have spark? pull the plug wire and plug, insert the plug into the wire and ground plug. turn motor with starter you should see the spark.

3- Do you have compression? purchase a compression tester and check it. You should have about 188 lbs normal-163 min- and 210 max.

4- Is the engine recieving fuel? Squirt some starter fluid in the compression chamber screw the spark plug in and see if she starts for a second or two.

Do these four steps and post back with what you find so the problem can be further assessed.

sounds like you got water in the carb.. or inbetween plug boot and plug... clean and dry everything

Default Grizzly 660 Problem

Hey guys,

Heres the situation:

Pulled the plug, kind of looked a little dark, but nothing to bad, Checked for spark, Looks good.

Pulled the air filter, everything looks good. Went to change the oil and there was hardly any oil in it. Kind of wierd since I just changed it, there was none being burned so I dunno whats up.

As far as compression, the bike pulls over REALLY easy, and when I hit the starter its almost as if its free spinning.

The thing is, if I would have took out a ring or something, I'm sure it would have made some more noise, or smoked if it was using oil. Then I don't think it would have restarted... I am hoping its not something drastic like that, but with my luck lately, who knows.

Thanks!

Here are some things that can cause poor or no compression.
You may also want to check the decompression system as it may be the problem.
A compression tester may be a good purchase if you are handy with a wrench, if not it may be better to have a mechanic look at it. Please keep us posted on the progress or if you need any specs.

STARTING FAILURE/HARD STARTING/POOR IDLE SPEED
PERFORMANCE/POOR MEDIUM AND HIGH-SPEED PERFORMANCE
COMPRESSION SYSTEM

Cylinder and cylinder head
 Loose spark plug
 Loose cylinder head or cylinder
 Broken cylinder head gasket
 Broken cylinder gasket
 Worn, damaged or seized cylinder

Piston and piston rings
 Improperly installed piston ring
Worn, fatigued or broken piston ring
 Seized piston ring
 Seized or damaged piston

Valve, camshaft and crankshaft
 Improperly sealed valve
Improperly contacted valve and valve seat
 Improper valve timing
 Broken valve spring
 Seized camshaft
 Seized crankshaft

CHANGE THE SPARK PLUG. You may think it is firing OK, but it is not.
