Default sportsman belt slip?

I havent purchased a atv yet, but have been looking toward the sportsman 500 or 400. I love the irs ,but have heard that automatic slip when they get wet. Can anyone help me with this?

well,
If the belt slips, something is wrong, either a loose/missing drain plug, or a messed up gasket...there really is nothing wrong with belt drive quads if they are operating correctly.

Any belt will slip if it gets wet. I've been in water over the top of the clutch cover and mine never got wet. Get at least the 500 or you'll be disappointed in the power.

I've been in water up to my seat ..... No slippage! ...Now, my (Made in the USA bike!) bike has plenty of power, but, I'd like to pull a wheelie now and then without rolling backward.....

I run my trailblazer 250 in water bout all the time never has it once slipped. If they do your gasket is not on right but if it does get water in it just rev it in neutral several times and it will fan it out.

what year sportsman do you want to buy? i own a '00 & i had problems now & then until i purchased a '01 belt housing exhaust vent. it's blocked on the bottom & does not allow splashing water to enter. the key is, if you start to get into deep water, give it lot's of gas, then there's enough air exiting the belt housing exhaust to prevent water from entering.

Depends on how deep you drive ! But do not let anyone tell you that do not slip because they will if you are the type to want to go deep.

Even so there is always a chance that some part of the belt drive system is not properly sealed like it was designed to be .

The newer 600 and 700 Polaris are the best belt drive system's in the water.
