Easy Clutching Question everyone can answer... I hope

A mechanic recently told me that a clutch kit would result in more wear and tear on my 99 Sportsman 500.
Is this true? I didn't think clutch kits were any less reliable than stock clutch setups???
I would like more low end power on my bike but I'm not willing to sacrifice the reliability or the useful life of the tranny and motor.
Any suggestions/comments would really help me out! Thanks!

ANY mod you perform to ANY vehicle will proportionally reduce the life of parts. More power= more wear. Some mods will cause faster wear (i.e. extreme porting/ NOS, etc).
A simple clutch kit and exhaust work will yeild more power, but I persoanlly beleive the wear factor is not a huge issue with just these mods.
Just maintain your machine with high quaility products (synthetic oils/ grease) and you will have years of reliable service.

A clutch kit like the heelclicker will close quicker and get a better grab on the belt reducing belt wear.
You will see more wear with a clutch kit beacause it will make the riding experience more enjoyable - hence you'll put more miles on than you would have otherwise

Any suggestions on which one of these would siut me best? I have stock tires and do mostly trail riding.
I may upgrade to bigger tires later on, but not more than 26".

The HPD clutch kits are geared more towards sportier riding styles. Sounds like you would best bennefit from a heelclicker. Also, check your PM, I sent you a message

Their are a number of kits available, make some calls, do your research - just make sure the kit fits your riding style. The only clutch kit I've personally tried is the heelclicker, I've been impressed with the low engagement and good grab on the belt (great for pulling out stuck honda's

Are the weight applications (tip, center, shoulder) bike specific or rider specific? Is there a recomendation on which weights to put where or will the heelclicker kit come only w/ the weights I need for my bike?
I don't have a lot to time (or experience) to be tuning or trying different weight combinations.
Will the stock clutch cover work or do I need a different one?
P.S. Thanks for the PM!

A clutch that is tuned to your way of riding is the way to go.Yet he is right on some things liike an agressive high engaging kit for a Scrammy wouldnt be good on a Sportsman and could mess things up faster. You have to clutch to your style of riding.
