600 sp twin won't go over 45 mph!!!

Has anyone had rpoblems with their sp600??? Mine suddenly won't go over 40 mph unless i let off the throttle a little...then slowly climbs to 45 but sounds like it might blow! the plugs are white, so i assume it is running lean on top end. Has great power every where else though-just no top end. This is the third time I've had problems with it, seems like the carb. must be junk??? has anyone else had carb
problems w/their 600? Mine has been at the dealer for over a week now and they still don't have it fixed yet, and I'm begginning to lose
my patience!!!

If it's running lean, it's not getting it's fuel on top. Clean out your carb..you might just have a plugged jet! If you have a loss of air, the plug will read rich cause the fuel isn't getting burned off.

Hey thanks guys for all the help. My dealer wher it has been for nearly two weeks just figured it out today!!! Moodster how the heck did you know??? That is exactly what he found! the very same white plastic nut on the drive clutch was loose. But he couldn't answer my question which is "why did it come loose in the first place". Oh well, I'm going to pick it up tommorrow and find out for sure if it "is fixed.
Then I've got plans on saturday to go kick some butt in the local ATV pull. Even with it the way it was I got a second and two thirds
3 weeks ago, and against 650 prairies, a 660 grizzly, and sp 700's. So if itwill keep running good I'll be real happy with my little old
600.

Thanks moodster, I gues I should have asked you guys first. So do you work at a dealer or something?
My dealer had it ther for what...like 1 1/2 weeks and suddenly after going to the polaris test-ride in
rice lake wi. for the new '04's on wed he got it fixed??? I know when going to training for GM and
Land Rover as a tech, sometimes I'drun into someone who could help me fix that problem child back
at the dealer. Thanks.

Hey Moodster,,,,,,
Is there anything else that will keep a 600 from reaching a normal top speed? The reason I asked is that we had an emergency the other day and had to hit the highway for about 2 miles. I was going down hill and on smooth asphalt. I'm normally not a speed demon but all my 04 600 (300 miles on it) would do was 50 and it was verified by my Etrex GPS. It was sort of embarrassing that two honda 450's were right with me. I've not checked anything within my clutch system. I talked to my dealer (mechanic) last week about it and about all I got was "some go fast and some don't". I told him I wanted one of the ones that goes fast! He just laughed. He did mention something about checking the rev limiter and it checked out o.k.. He said there wouldn't be much he can do within the clutch but all the reading I've done on these forums, I beg to differ.

Check the plastic ebs nut, made of white plastic,if it is loose it will not let the belt shift into high gear, that is the number one problem for not reaching top speed,600,s will run 60 to 62mph.
