cutting scrambler plastic?
#2
i also am thinking about cutting my plastic. the only thing that is stopping me is the different cuts that would have to be made on each side to retain the heat shield. but i may be upgrading to a race style pipe in the future then ill cut them.

Heres how I cut my plastic:
1. Decide where you want to cut it at.
2. Once you decide take 3/4" masking tape and lay along the line where you want the cut to be.
3. Now take 2'" masking tape and mask the plastic inward (helps protect it when you start to sand)
4. I use a sawzall with a fine tooth blade (a jig saw will work too) I try to keep the cut about 1/8" away
from the edge of the tape.
5. Take a sanding block with 120 grit sand paper and start to sand the plastic edge. Make sure to keep
the block vertical and just sand the very edge of the plastic.
6. Once it starts to smooth out switch to 180 grit then 220..320..400..600 and finally 1000 grit.
7. Once your done with 1000 take all the masking tape off and I usually finish off the edges with 1500
grit by hand.
The best advice I can give you is take your time!!! Look at other quads with cut plastic to help decide where to cut yours.

i cut my plastic today it was very easy. i just drew some lines (make sure you measure from the outside to see if there even to keep everything symetrical) then i cut it with a dremel cutting disk it only took 10 minutes after drawing. it left a very smooth cut that required very little sanding a little with 150 grit then i finished up with 1500
