Anyone ever had any problems runnin in dust without a lid with a K&N. I do have an outerwear if that makes a difference.

 

Should b ok, just remember to clean it, and re-oil every once & a while..

i have had problems with it closed, but if you keep it well lubed it should be ok

 

We have had a few problems in the deep sand with no lid. Sand would build up in the bottom of the box and constrict the lower side of the filter. We instead bought bolt-on outerwear kits. Same flow as no lid but with the extra protection and clean box.

Foam filters are much better in dusty conditions and any conditions with very fine particle size. K+N filters flow more air buth thay ware not as good at filtering the very small particles. They are fine in sand and loam, but in dusty conditions they will let more crud into your engine.

Those don't flow as well as no lid. If sand is builing up just remove the drain plug on the bottom of the box.

I agree with RR1 foam is better for dusty conditions.

 

just clean it and oil it after every couple of rides.
