Default Steering Stems....

Hey i plan on riding MX with my DS650. i bent my stock steering stem. i was wondering which aftermarket steering stem you guys would recommend...
Should i get an extended one? Which steering stem should i get? i am not on a budget...incase it matters...i would also like to know the reasons for your choices.

Hope to hear from ya soon.

I went with a +1 1 /4 stem from Timmy Boy Designs. They are now called TBR. I absolutley love it. The quality is unbeliveable. I also had mine chromed. Best chrome job I have on my bike too. To bad most of it is hidden.

I'm not in to MX but most MX quads I have ridden have fairly low bars. The factory bars on a DS are probably higher than most compared to where the seat is. Don't think that a taller stem would be the way to go. You might want to look for something stock length.

The only reason I went with the extented stem was so I could use aftermarket bars. The stock tem is to short for any bars other than the stock ones. You could get the stock lenght and get a bar riser like alba sells I guess. The extended stem actually helps a lot when standing on the pegs. At least it does if you are 6 ft tall or more. Not all DS ridders are. So that would be something to consider.

Bar height..... Well I agree with an extended stem.

I'm taking my stock stem over there to be revamped... and 2" over.
If you look at aftermarket bars... you'll need the stem height. Especially if you have an IMS tank.
For my need, I'm going with CR HI Applied.

Also... talk to Brian at TBR. He'll recommend something for you.
They actually race the DS650 (off-road, not MX).... and give some great advice.

i like havin the bars up taller on the ds compared to like on a 400ex, makes some tricks kinda easier, i can almost do a syran wrap(sp) now, i wouldn't even try that on somethin smaller
