scrambler belt replacement question

hello

replacing my belt today and was told that when the new belt is on the part # has to be so you can read it when you are off the machine.is this true

yes, the numbers should be facing away from the machine

Well whats the deal if they dont. I put a new belt on finally a few mos ago and cant remember if i did that or not

the belts get broke in to run in one direction, you'll get "creep" if you put it on backwards.

I've reversed the belt on my snowmobile by not paying attention, and rode it that way for a couple hundred miles. Didn't notice any difference but I still put it back the right way when I saw what I did.
