atc 250r vs 125
#3
The bike will easily win. Todays 125's are VERY fast. I had a 84 T-3 and it would easily spank my buds 85 R....later I got spanked pretty good by a Banshee. I have no idea why people think the old 3 wheelers were rocket propeled or something.

Sounds like someone is a little insecure about riding their 3 wheeler with a training wheel, I mean 4 wheeler.
250r would win in the sand I bet due to more contact patch for a better launch. But you are correct, as far as lbs/hp, the 125 probably has the edge.
All this talk, I can't believe you would even ask. Why not just race him?

An 84 T-3 beating an 85, well maybe if the R rider sucked! My R will totally spank an 84 T-3 by 5-6 bike lenghts at almost any distance. The 125 if newer should beat the R but it'd be a good race to try. Maybe when I get the chance I'll try it! But I say bring on the 84-85 T-3's, not even a good race! 86-87 T-3 is a totally different story! Those are incredible compared to the 84-85 T-3's.

I know my 86LT250 can take a late model RM125 because I did so to 2 different bikes and I know that when it runs right my friends 84 250R would take me easy. Therefore, I believe the 250R would win with the riders weight close to equal.
Something you must factor in when running quads against bikes is rider weight especially on the bike. A lighter machine with less HP will be affected more by every extra pound than one that was heavier to start but with 2x the displacement. Also, remember that although the 250R likely does not have 2x the HP of a 125 the difference in torque and the width of the power band will be huge and make a major difference.
