Well.... any reviews of one of these beast thumpers? Seem one, heard one, got passed by one? I got some cash from selling a car and was supposed to thump it down and pay off more than half of my loan to buy my 'Dale, but now I'm considering riding her for a lil bit and then sending her off for a Stage IV while I'm away at school. Anyone have any opinions on this? Is it worth it? Here are my thoughts. I may have a 'Dale that could puke on me and end up costing me 2 grand in repair, just to get it back to normal. Or... I could put about 3 grand into it now, for the Stage IV, and have a ton more power, pass them darn new Yamaha 450 punks like they were standing still, embarass Raptors and Banshees, laugh at Z400s and 400EX's, and even edge out the DS without too much trouble at all. Seems like quite a screamer to me, and if not worth it for the power increase which I probably don't really need at all, it would be nice to have it - and the dependability is priceless. So I'm looking for opinions. Got one? Thanks.

PS: Still can't wait to ride my poor, lonely, dust collecting Blaze!

I have one (comp IV 450). I did it because I needed the trans & crank bolts done and all other updates. I also liked the reliability enhancements SBM has. I also had them change my 5th gear. It does shift better and seems to pull harder through the gears. That said I don't think it has the power gain that they claim don't get me wrong it is stronger just not as much as I was expecting. Hopefully I'll be able to get some more out of it with some tuning work.

Did you get the high or low compression Stage IV? That surely would make a difference in power. Also, do you know the compression ratios that are used in the low and high? I wouldn't mind it being about the same as stock at 12.5:1 but I wouldn't want it any higher than that. In the stock bikes you can run good 93 or 94 pump gas, right? I would be alright with that for the high compression kit, but nothing I couldn't buy at a local pump. But surely the high compression kit is what they are listing the HP numbers from. Interested to find out about it all. Thanks for the reply oldsandman.

I have the high comp. (race gas only) Comp IV. I don't know the compression #'s. They are also using more agressive mapping with the high comp. I was told.

What do guys run for fuel with the stock 12.5:1 ratios? I was guessing 93 or 94 pump gas, at least I'm hoping. If higher, another reason to get a SBM 450 in low compression form (I imagine low to them is somewhere about 11:1 or 11.5:1). Ever had your bike on a before/after dyno ? Or even have you had it on one since you got it back together? Speed stock should be in the upper 30's I believe, probably around 36-37? Stage IV high compression should be almost 50. I would hope you could feel a for sure it put me back in the seat of my pants difference with that much HP difference. Maybe not though?

I'm putting my SB stage IV 12.5-1 motor in starting tomorrow. My local dealer has it now putting in the R&S 5th gear.. Stock motors are running 11-11.5-1 comp despite what C-Dale claims.. This is SB's findings.. I'll be running the bowls and run Sand Mtn against my bros piped, cam, YFZ 450.... I will run stock gearing as that's what I ran with the last few times out so I can make a fair comparison...I bought this motor w/ 5 hrs on it form a local here. I rode it in a dirtbike. It pulled each gear much quicker then my quad. It felt faster then my bro's YFZ. Now keep in mind it was a 250lb dirtbike not a 375lb quad.. We will see this weekend...
Oldsandman I was told you can run 50/50 race gas....

Thats news to me...Wade and Dustin told me to only run race gas in mine. If you are running the "high comp" I would strongly suggest talking to them about fuel requirments.

I talked to Dustin and he said only to run 100 octane fuel. He said that anything less was trouble for the 12.5:1 compression ratio and would eventually spell problems. MUST USE RACE FUEL, NO MIX!

50% 91 octane and 50% 114 octane (Trick Brand) equals roughly 103 octane... Or I can get Sonoco 110 octane.
